    Hi Guys

three days ago BusterOz brought up a link on a 163Cv D4D engine!!! Did you know they existed? I didn't?

So off to do some research we go

Who would of thought that there was a D4D in a 90 series?? Don't know much about the engine but i believe it has the same turbo set-up as the 1KZ engine and not the variable high pressure turbo as we know of on the 1KD-D4D 120 series.

Here is 2 links below with translator of the old 163Cv D4D in Italy.

This is what a 163Cv D4D looks like in Spain.

Hope you like the findings and if you find more information on the D4D-163CV please add your findings so that all us PP's Learn.

    Cheers

Gday MDST from Australia to Venezuela

That is a great finding of information you gave there. The thought of having a D4D engine running an independent turbo from the EGR system is definitely an engine setup to be envied.

If you could find some information on the "1KD-D4D 3.0 L 163cv turb" showing the actual turbo setup that would be excellent information that i and other PP's here would love to see

      Here is 2 x links to turning a standard diesel 3L 2.8 & 5LE 3.0 into a power house by comparison Lol

Not sure if the conversion kit would exceed the value of the vehicle but the option is there! Lol

          Gday MDST

I have already read most of those links before (Not all) but i am sure they are good for those that have not read them! thanks anyway and i do appreciate your efforts

The information that i am finding hard to get hold of is the information on the D4D-163CV engine.

If anyone could get information specifically on the early D4D-163CV engine (European only) as we have never had that particular engine set-up here in Australia and i am mainly keen to see the actual turbo set-up as i believe it was a normal turbo with the external vacuum operated waste gate dump valve as appose to the later variable high pressure electronic turbo.

          Cheers

Thank you to BusterOz - 10-11-2011 08:15 PM for opening a can of worms and bringing to our attention that there was two types of 1KD-D4D engines out there Which is why i started a new thread because i figured it would go off topic from the original thread Lol (http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...king-EGR/page3 Reply #23.

I was adamant that this particular engine was a vacuum operated turbo & BusterOz made me do research to back-up my theory! Lol

Without the help of MDST (From Venezuela) it would have been that much harder to chase the theory and after MDST provided me with the Pdf i could then chase the part number to get a proper look at that turbo in question!

I cant believe that i did not think to use http://www.toyodiy.com/login?from=/ as i have been a member of this web sight for a long while. (Highly recommend all Toyota owners to join this web sight as it is free and all that you need to know about your vehicle IS here).

This is the link that opened the can of worms courtesy of BusterOz! Lol

This is the link that shows the part number of turbo - Better known as a "

PS I still envie the thought of an independent turbo from the EGR (And in a 90 series!!!) Wow!

I really like toyota. So I bought a Toyota Rav 4 recently. It has everything I needed for a vehicle. It can also lets five people in, so I don't have to worry much on holidays or weekends with my family. Its fuel economy is also enviable with the available 4-cylinder engine. The optional 269-horsepower V6 is very quick while still getting 27 mpg on the highway. And recently, I've been searching for a good deal on Toyota Rav 4. I found it here: http://cardealexpert.com/model/20667/2011-Toyota-RAV4/. It sure helps a lot.

There are two types of turbochages on 1kd-ftv indeed, step motor variable type and actuator vacum type.
Im still not 100% convinced weather EGR valve plays any role in dumping excess turbo pressure as there is no metion about in in Toyota Technical manuals.
I have managed to obtain some latest Toyota Service bulletins, so if anyone wants a copy i will gladly forward it if you pm your email address.
                    Thanks

                      xpro

Yes there is 2 types of turbo's indeed!

One dumps turbo boost at the turbo via a wast-gate that is vacuum operated via the manifold pressure (actuator vacuum type) and is NOT associated in any way with the EGR emissions therefore there is no problem with blocking the EGR on the 1KZ.

One dumps its turbo boost via the EGR valve (step motor variable type) this system is fully monitored by the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and various other sensors scattered around the engine and they all work as one system as appose to the actuator vacuum type turbo that is totally independent of the EGR.

Now on a totally different note and no insinuation towards xpro at all but i am feeling like i want a bitch session due to other peoples probs on this forum with the so-called tech prognoses at dealerships!

                      "TABOO SUBJECT"

"SOME" mechanics of the today's bread call them selves mechanics but refuse to learn the full principle/theory/mechanics of an engine with the past and present technology and can "ONLY" diagnose a car with a "scan tool" ...... Hence there mentality of the "NO ERROR CODE NO PROBLEM" and they are just "Fitters" @ the end of the day!

Older more experienced mechanics will know exactly what i am going on about and a scan tool is "ONLY" as good as the person using it (It is not the holey bible on prognoses. This includes the manual) and if there is no code to point them in the write direction then old fashioned prognoses by elimination with common sense comes to hand!

                      Cheers

PS Would like some back-up from the older experianced mechanics when i inevitably will get attacked for my last comment that i stand by

I love how much you guys are facinated with this type of turbo as I have one and it’s giving me hell to find the actuator part. All the other 1kd actuators are so easy to find. I own the 2000 prado 1kdClick image for larger version
