I have recently swapped, last year GIO were the cheapest by about $200, but this year nrma were the cheapest by about $200.
When it came to mods and accessories, they did not care as long as I had proof of purchase and did not need to list them

    Just make sure agreed value

I'd be interested to know who's offering the best deal at the moment too as my renewal is due soon. Premium has gone up almost $70 since last year with AAMI.
There are so many insurance brands around these days supposedly offering cheap insurance but some are pretty dodgy. I once used Budget Direct because they were the cheapest at the time but I would never recommend them to anyone. Ended up making a claim on the Prado because some turkey keyed the whole side of the vehicle. The repairer said they would not pay out enough to do the job to his satisfaction and when it came time to renew my policy Budget Direct would not renew it because I had made a claim. They seem happy to take premiums but once you claim they get rid of you.

the best ive found so far is Youi... $1070 for a 2000 TX Prado valued at $23100 which is well above market but i have a fair few mods. Thats with windscreen cover. probably gonna go with them unless NRMA does better over the phone tomorrow...

I'm currently looking for insurance for my new 2010 Prado ZR and have done all the research to find that for me it has come down to a choice of two - TCIS $980 & Suncorp $860.
TCIS will cover every thing everywhere on and off road including window glass, hire car & NCB discount with $1000 personal effect and $1500 for recovery gear but no storm, hail & flood where as Suncorp cover everything on any gazetted road (no Tacks) including window glass, hire car & NCB discount with $500 personal effect only but they are the only ones that will cover storm, hail & flood.
I am having a hard time choosing. Insurance to me is not about price, its about what does the policy cover and as my car will spend 95% of its life on the black top, I'm leaning towards Suncorp due to the storm, hail & flood as I have another 4WD for the hardcore offroad which is covered with TCIS.
            Anyone have any thoughts?

PS, My other 4WD that is covered by TCIS is highly modified and all of the mods are listed on the policy which they are happy to cover, including duel ARB lockers, oversized tyres, body lift, coil spacers and strut spacers. I can highly recommend TCIS for modified 4WD's.

if anybody is thinking that the insurance companies suffer during these disasters and therefore need to put up their premiums to compensate . WRONG . all these companies have reinsurers who also have reinsurers so the cost is spread worldwide. nrgiaambug might pay the first 20 million of the claim then put in a claim for 100 million of which as you see they might pay out a fraction of . while they sit on the money for a while and try to avoid paying out as much as they can for as long as they can . the insurers after a disaster send in the assessors really quickly and massively over estimate the cost of repairs then make a claim to their reinsurers. then they give you sweet FA if they give it to you at all. they make craploads and rub their hands with glee every time there is a disaster and so do the charities .insurance companies are not here to help you .

$1070 for a 2000 TX! Really? I'm paying about 300 bucks for a 2001 GXL with all the modifications listed with AAMI. Having said that I think it's market value not agreed.
                  Cheers

Age has a bit to do with price, I cannot fault RACQ as we have multi policy & over 55 discounts. Did a radiator at Cape York , city type service, they rang every day for an update while we were off the road.

We hit a roo in Outback NSW and are with Suncorp, they just which panel beater I would like to take it to, took the $500.00 excess over the phone and the car was fixed. No dramas about how why or where the damage happened, pretty happy with that.

ended up going with nrma... 2000 prado insured for $20000, for around $1100... including windscreen... overall pretty happy, considering nrma is local, has offices and will tow from anywhere in australia if ive broken down...

                        roadside assist included in price...

$70 Bucks ? lucky you I'm with AAMI and they've increased mine (2011 GXL from new) from $460 to $980 in THREE years currently looking at Coles who are offering the same deal I had before ($460) though I'm sure it's just a sweetener to get me in I'm going to do it and if THEY put it up next year then I'll move again , sick of being ripped off........................

I use Elders as they cover anywhere that's legal including non gazetted roads and will insure up to $24000 of mods / accessories that I have. You will pay a bit more for it thou. No one else would come close to suit my needs. I think $15000 was the most for mods / accessories that I could find before I found Elders.
