Steel Sliders and ARB Locker Setup.

My OEM Toyota sidesteps almost fell off so it was time to replace them with some proper ATS steel sliders...

The way the whole setup works is:

The compressor pumps up the reservoir in the sidesteps untill it is a certain preassure. Once the preassure is reached the compressor stops untill the preassure going below certaint treshold and then starts pumping out the reservoir again... There are enought preassure in reservoir to turn lockers on/off about 30 times...

The compressor also used to pump up a tyres as well... :)

That is a nice set of looking steps, how much $$$, the toyota steps seem a bit flimsy when you stand on them. Does ATS do them in a side rail style that bolts up to your bar?

Good setup LC, thanks for posting the photos. I've banged mine a couple of times, but your old ones really are stuffed!

Guys,

The new ones cost around $950 from memory... The ones I have were bought from the owner of the other truck which has been traded in. They are about 3 years old and been all over Oz a few times ;). But hey, they still look as good as new 8).

Looks great Stan,

Did you install the compressor and the switches yourself? I'm thinking of getting the ARB system soon.

Also did you install the locker yourself?

I'd love a set of those side steps. :-)

Cheers,

Drew.

Drew,

Lockers and steps are done by Darren...
Compressor I did myself a few years back, but it was modified to work with lockers :D

I'm hooked Stan

The missus approved the purchase of the tray to mount the Max-Air, now that's going to look out of place without the Compressor, then when I show her your pics she'll insist I get the side steps to go with it (even better - since it was her side step I mangled on Sunday) Then there's always the locker - that's just the way these things are done.

Nice plan hey.

Cheers

Chip,

I tried this approach and it worked for a while until my wife mentioned something about the latest accessory matching her new earrings made out of my bollocks.

They are only attached to the chassis rails as seen on the pic... the front bit was designed for attachment as well but they are very strong as it is...

Now that I had used the sliders for the first time, I thought I'll do some report on them. :D

They offer excellent side protection for body work as they stand out a way past door panels...
My car was on the same section as per picture below and I was that close to the side that drivers rear view mirror had closed... Body work didn't get a single scratch as side steps protected the side of the car :D

Hey Stan

That bank loooks like it would have turned the standard step into a pretzel - and then gone on to munch on the door.

Great shot though.

Hey Stan,

Do the steps protrude more than the standard ones?

I'm thinking that would be a good thing for situations like that bank depicted in your pic, as well as for shopping centres and inconsiderate door flingers...

Grandeman,

Yes, they do protrude more so that they protect car bodywork at the banks like that. Also they seat higher than a standard ones, so you get a bit more clearance as well.

Unfortunately won't help a lot in the car parks as some front doors and most rear doors on are short at the bottom and longer at the middle...

But it would make an excellent excuse for SWMBO why you need a new sidesteps

I use the one about ... "Those bends in the side steps might scuff your new shoes, Dear.".

The new side steps should be on order as soon as we get back from our trip.

It's just me playing G-man.

I was mucking around with stripping bits of video and turning them into animated gifs. Bit large in file size but they do look impressive. 8) :D Unless you're on dial-up :(

Justo's got one on his posts ... and I've put some of the other lads HERE. You just need a bit of patience for them to load.

DIY Installation help needed

Postby Drew on Thu Jul 12, 2007 4:23 pm

Stan,

I've managed to get my hands on a set of ATS side steps second hand - but they didn't come with the mounting hardware or instructions.

I'm going to do the installation myself and it's fairly straight forward, but it's a little tricky for the mount on the rear on the passenger's side. It looks like the bolt goes through the chassis rail and the mount is on an angle.

Is it possible for you to post a photo showing the detail in this area? I'm interested in how long the bolts are as it is very close to the fuel tank.

Cheers,

Drew.
