Which fuel?

Postby rambo on Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:31 pm

Hi all,

Always used Safeway petrol and LPG in the 100 series, so now I've got the 150 thought I'd use their diesel. Did some research and couldn't find any adverse information apart from the usual unsubstantiated scaremongering about Safeway fuels in general. My question is, what is the best diesel to use? What is your preferred blend?

Cheers

i've used the woolies fuel with great results in previous diesels. from memory it is the same as the caltex stuff anyway.

you say safeway, so i presume you are in victoria. - i'd love to give BP Ultimate a go, but it's not available in NSW.

BP Ultimate all the way baby! Otherwise BP standard. Caltex vortex diesel is a waste of money IMO.

Thanks guys,

There's been minimal interest in this topic, which is a good thing. It means that overall there really is no difference between the available fuels. A few people have their personal favourites, but overall there are no horror stories.

I've done a fair bit of research into this, being my first diesel car. I've managed to come up with the following -

-Overall Australia has a poorer (but improving) quality of diesel fuel compared to other parts of the world.

-Cheaper fuels such as Safeway/Caltex have a higher sulphur content, which is environmentally bad.

-The 'Ultimate' branded fuels have a lower sulphur content, which can lead to engine damage in the right(wrong) circumstances.

-If you fill up from the servo nearest to you at the time you will end up with the best blend in your tank! :D

Cheers
