There back...just do a search for "prado alternator". That should narrow it down enough to find them.

Yep, that's the same seller. I paid $37 delivered. Fitted this device yesterday afternoon. Good easy to understand instructions. My charge rate went from 13.5v to 14.1v with the car hot. Fan bloody tastic! best $37 i've spent, even better then the washer jet upgrades and they're great! :D

Forgive my ignorance but is this only for the D4D? I have a pre D4D and the way I read the ebay page is that my model already gives out enough voltage, is this correct?

I have a dual battery setup and I would like to make sure I'm getting the most out of the car I can.

Hi tuddy,

It all gets back to are you having a problem keeping your batteries charged?

All modern alternators are temperature compensated meaning they reduce their output
voltage as the engine bay temperature increases. To put it simply as the battery environment
gets hotter and the battery heats up less voltage is required to fully charge it.

In the Prado D4D series the voltage is reduced even more for upcoming anti emission requirements
resulting in a slow battery charge rate.

In the 200 series the voltage has been reduced for both the petrol and diesel models and the problem is
common to both fuel types.

Though I haven't seen anything yet I also suspect it would apply to the 150 petrol version as well
as the D4D version.

You can use the Alternator Voltage Booster on any alternator to lift the voltage but you do need to
check that the cold and hot voltage ranges stay within safe limits.

In your case if your not having a problem charging your batteries then don't worry about it,
if you are then you need to look at the cold and hot voltage readings and decide if an increase
would be beneficial.

Cheers
Leigh

Thanks for the reply Leigh, can't say I've ever been called "Tuddy" before...

As i haven't had the dual batt setup long i haven't experienced any problems yet. my original cranking battery lasted 4 years so I don't believe there is any issues charging.

Ive been on the road for nearly a month now running a fridge and a freezer, plus lights, inverter etc. Installed my LieghW diode before i left and everything is working beautifully. Definately makes a difference according to my scangauge, money well spent i say. :D :D

Hi All
I have just joined Pradopoint and have brought a 2008 D4D GXL.Used to have a 80 series cruiser (diesel) with a dual battery system (lead acid) run by a 100amp solenoid.I also have a caravan with a 12v battery in the boot. Never had any problem with charging these 2 batterys.
Now with the Prado and the low charge rate I am not sure which way to attack the dual battery system.Do I
1. Get a $35 Voltage Booster only
2. Get a Redarc BCDC1220 Charger only
3.Get both the voltage booster and the charger.
Any ideas would be helpful
Thanks Hunty

Hi Hunty,

Providing you run suitable cable with the booster you won't need the charger at all,
just a good isolator.

Cheers

Hi Hunty,

Search is your friend... sometimes :). In this case, you don't want to search for BCDC-1220 cause the search engine interprets that as +BCDC -1220, which means find matches for BCDC but exclude matches for 1220. Rather you would need to search for BCDC 1220 (no dash).

Anyway, now that we've had a lesson in the idiosyncracies of this search engine...

I suggest reading the BCDC-1220 thread and also the RanOx thread. The pros/cons are fully covered.

Thanks to all for reply.
When you say correct size cable what size do you suggest.
Also what type of isolator.
Thanks Hunty
