  • NSW engineering cert for 265 70 17's

    Hey everyone,

Couldnt find this else where so though I would start a new thread. Just seeing who out there has gone to the effort of getting there larger shoes engineered in NSW? Interested in any feedback encounted in the process. Including cost, easy of getting it done etc

Hopefully NSW adopts the VSB 14. Then i wont have to worry.

    Thanks every one

I'm looking at the same thing here in QLD. Sick of waiting for rules to change.

They no longer issue Engineering Certificates. The new procedure is called the Vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Scheme (VSCCS)
          http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/newsevents...222-vsccs.html
For a start, your 2005 model will need the speedo recalibrated. I suggest something like this Yellow Box speedo calibrator: http://www.yellr.com/
Good luck with that and keep us posted on how you get on.

Yeah thanks Peter, I have found a local Engineer that is listed as part of the VSCCS. He has been away so hopefully I will get a chance to see him this week. Its funny I have read lost of posts on here how the bigger profile tyres have made peoples speedo more accurate compared to GPS. Mine seemed dead on accurate with 265 65 17's. Now with the 265 70 17's it seems to be reading about 2-3 kms under the actual speed vs GPS.

My speedo is the same as yours, being a 2004 model, it reads correctly with the standard 265/65/17 tyres. Later models built after Nov 2006 read accurately with the 265/70/17 tyres.

I would wait to see if speedo is accurate with new tyres prior to spending money on recalibrating.

                My 150 Prado is now accurate with 265 x 70 x 17's.

If anything reading 1-2 kmh higher than actual speed.
                Cheers

Having a look last night again it seems at 60 its reading 1-2 under at 80 about 2-3 and 100 3-4. Not sure if that makes any sense or not though? I am sure peter will know the answer lol

Your speedo is under reading by about 3.4% of the total speed, which means as the speed increases the error in km/h is greater.

                      http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

@60 your speedo would read just under 58
@80 your speedo would read just over 77
@100 your speedo would read just over 96
