Do's any ones Diesel air conditioner belts let out a scream when activated while car is travelling seems to happen only on hot days when car has been standing may be it's the compressor clutch it's going in for its 15000 k service soon.

Jez might be the belt slipping you are hearing, get them to check your belt tensioner for correct tension.

Jez, you will find the belt a little loose. The head pressure in the compressor goes up a bit on hot days and loads up the belts.
