  • The last few months has seen a vast improvement to economy. I changed to run only 98 Ron fuel, removed the Roofrack and keep tyres at 40psi. I would say this has seen an improvement of 1.5lph overall. I have not changed the way I drive - still give it a boot full every now and again.
I used to average 16lph round town and 20-22lph towing the jayco.

I was never unhappy with previous figures, just thought I would pay some attention to it.
Prado 120 petrol, TRD supercharger, front/rear airlockers, profender suspension, superior UCA's and trailing arms, 4.56 nitro gears, arb winchbar, winch, ipf spots, 285/70/17 Bfg muds km2's, UHF, awning, steel roofrack, buds sliders, rear drawers, extractors/exhaust, plus a heap of other crap.

    • The best fuel economy I have achieved was 12.5L/100km on highway driving, while I average about 17.5 in city driving. This is a stock prado.

      • I changed tyres with my highway terrains that are on my Hilux, slightly smaller diameter than the 265 KM2 and no difference at all in fuel consumption, it still sucks
On average I'm a constant 21l/100, 4spd auto. Its will be getting traded in next year for sure.

                  • I have just bought my Prado and have done my first refill so here are the results.
357km, 58.7 litres. = 16.44 l/100km (or 17.1mpg in terms I understand better). This is all suburban Sydney driving and the car is standard
A bit disappointing initially (having had an XTrail giving 10.5l/100km) but from what I can see in the last couple of pages of this thread, probably about what is to be expected.
Interestingly, the guage was exactly on 3/4 full when I refilled. The refill was almost 1/3 the tank capacity. Thus the guage is very optimistic.

                    • Don't forget the fuel gauge works in two stages on the 120. When both tanks are full the gauge will show full. When you using the first tank the gauge will only come down to approx 1/2 way (tad under) then the gauge will flick back to full with a green light on then your on your last tank and gauge will proceed to head towards the empty mark. When it gets virtually right down on the E the low fuel light will come on (in Orange) then that's it your done lol your consumption sounds about right. I get pretty much that out of mine with the mods. I would say I use about an extra litre per 100 both city and freeway since the mods..... Cheers Steve

                      • Thanks Steve. I managed to pick up the fuel guage behaviour from helpful stuff elsewhere on this forum.
Do you know how many litres left when the orange light comes on?

                          • [IMG][/IMG] guage was showing just under empty. My fuel light comes on when gauge is virtually sitting dead on empty. I would say approx 20L left when light comes on.

                            • Thanks Steve and Blake.
Your calculations seem to assume that all 180 liters is available.
I ran my Kingswood dry (in the days when that was not a problem) and then got 15.5 gallons into a 16.5 gallon tank. So the last gallon was not accessable because the fuel take-up is not at the verry bottom (which is good because it picks up less sludge that way).
So I am not going to bank on being able to get 20 liters worth of driving after the light comes on. Problem is that I cannot see how one can find out how much is left unless you do run it dry and thats not a good idea with a modern engine and also with an automatic gearbox.

                              • I just did a round trip of 900 km, and the OBC shows an average of 17.2 lt/100km. This is with towing a 1.6ton trailer at 110km/h in 4th for about 650 km (I have the 5 speed and according to the owners manual, 4th is recommended for towing) Did some serious offroading at idle speed in the mix too. Virtually on empty now, will fill later today and see how accurate the OBC is.
