I assume you mean replacing the muffler only is within a few KW's of replacing the entire exhaust system. One quote in Sydney was for a full replacement at $900-, to which the missus said, *#&! off.

Does the muffler only replacement give much power increase? I assume that the muffler is full of baffles, which is causing the air flow problem and the rest of the system is O.K.

Any of these mufflers in Sydney, or will any fit?

      Re: Steinbauer Performance Chip

      Hey,

We are in Sydney. Feel free to contact us and we can point you the right way.

The Steinbauer can be un-plugged and re-fitted if your concerned about what Toyota think.
We do alot of dealer work and none of the accessories come under scrutiny.
Also Stenibauer are backed by Diesel Care Australia so they have a great understanding of the product. You will NOT
have a problem with warranty.Good example is we ordered our 150 Kakadu from our dealer and had fitted the whole assortment of ARB gear including
OME suspension and the Steinbauer...Once we were finished we sent it back to be PD'd. We have also sent our 200 back to Toyota to check as we were helping them with
the Oil consumption test and neither the Steinbauer or Exhaust has ever been questioned.

      Giles,

Is there anything you can do to boost a petrol 150 (not with a turbo).

        Re: Steinbauer Performance Chip

I wont go plug us on here, but perhaps those who have purchased a Stienbauer from us and got thier P.P discount [vendors section doesnt allow members access to these without contacting us any more] could put out some details 8)

By changing the muffler we see aprox a 7% increase in low down throttle response, and we can then tune the Steinbauer to suit the heat escaping out the more free flowing muffler and better low down response.

The steinbauer tech performance sheets we find to be slightly under rated.

You can do petrol as well, I will be doing a build up on the FJ I have on order with the 200kw dual VVTI V6, which includes liquid injection LPG, a tuning device for the computer, extractors and exhaust, I have the 415 HP Safari snorkel for it already, air cleaner, etc.

So far 15% more power than petrol is available just from the liquid injection gas.

I expect the other mods to add about the same.

Can someone suggest a place in Perth to get these fitted?

Also does this have any effect on the 1500rpm drone?

The Steinbauer is the pick of them with inbuilt safety feature.

We also find the performance charts are underated generally for the improvement, from them.

Giles you should try ours as a comparision. You may be a SB agent but there are a lot of people that want / need more power than what is offered by SB. That's where we could fill the gap. Just one comparo between the two chips will be all it takes.

Hey Robert, do you have a chip to suit the 1KZ 120 series TD yet? I've spoken to you guys numerious times and have always been pushed towards petrol injection which is not what I'm after. At one stage there was a stronmg suggestion that a chip was being engineered. I have friends who have purchased a Chip It chip for various vehicles (eg 200 series, Hino truckes and others) and they rave about the performance benifits for the cost of the chip. Would be rather dissapointed if no chip ever eventuates (similar to what I believe happened for the 100 series)

Rob, I have the CHIPIt on my list of "to-dos". It is a short list with only the 3 inch exhaust (Manta) ranking ahead which goes on in as soon as its shipped from WA. Greg at Sprint Auto SA will be doing the install of the chip.

I attended your premises in WA up near Clarkson ?, (well at the end of the freeway just south of Exmouth lol) while in WA recently and was impressed so you have my order. The other two factors that have influenced my decision are you taking the time to address concerns on this forum and the discount you are about to offer me .

Happy if you want to use my rig to run some graphs, post up some before and after results etc, especially on these forums.

What about the DP Chip? Guys at Berrima Diesel install them. Proprietor was trained by Robert Bosch and they seem to know their stuff when it comes to diesels. I installed one on my 1KZ. Really easy to fit, plug and play absolutely no problems with engine management faults etc. It's supposed to be tuned for Australian conditions using Aussie diesel. Did make a noticebale difference to the sluggish performance of the 3.0L TD. They also do one for the D4D lifting it to 150 kW and 480 Nm.

Can you give me some advice ref just changing the muffler? It sounds like an affordable option for me but I would like to know if I would be OK to just go through a local exhaust shop or do you go to a specialist 4x4 place like www.sterling4x4.com.au? Any advice on what to ask for to make sure I get it right the first time?

I am not after a loud sounding car, but would like the fuel economy that this could give as well as a bit more power.

Go Humex or similiar, and its not too loud either

Its not really worth just changing the muffler,a turbo back system will be the way to go,or if its the price is abit out of reach then dont bother at all.

Well, interestingly enough, we have a renewed interest. We do in fact have a 100 series chip now but not with a change of tunes like our common rail chip. Still gives better than the any chip we have tested and still has EGT control. But a new board with changeable tunes may be evident soon. The existing chip for the 100 series uses, as part of the system, the standard common rail chip so if/when you upgrade to a common rail vehicle you already have a chip ready to go. Our goal is to allow people to only ever buy 1 chip from us and take it with them for any future vehicle they buy ... until we go to rocket power anyway
