Earlier in this thread there was mention of doing some night runs. Have the organisers given this any more thought? I'm really keen to do a couple and I'm sure there would be others.
Cheers Ben.
This should be one of the first things to look at as part of your risk management.

I presume the basis of this GTG is the same as the one we organized and those previous, and that is that in essence its just a bunch of mates doing a trip together. Sure the committee picks out a few tracks, picks out the camp spots, organises a few sponsors and so on. But I don't think its fair or reasonable to expect the committee to be forming risk management policies or for people to expect that if "shit happens" the committee will have all the answers. People need to make their own decisions and plan themselves for those things that can go wrong in the bush.
Cheers Andrew

Hey Ben, we have not planned them, however it's likely we can hit the tracks anytime a group sees fit.
I think we will just play it by ear, & when that group starts getting anxious for a night drive, someone will be available to pull it off. It will likely be driving some of the same tracks we have done in the day, then you can compare the difference.
This is my opinion not the committee decision.

Exactly, & Well put & much more smoothly than I would write it.

Awesome! I can't wait to try out the light bar on some night runs. I can only imagine how good those creek crossings will be at night! And in the day for that matter...
F.y.i there is at least 2 Prado point members attending that have sat phones. I have spoken to them & confirmed we can use them in case if an emergency.
Naturally only for emergencies & you would have to cover the cost of any calls.
Anybody else that will be carrying a sat phone, & happy for it to be used for emergencies, can you please make me aware of who you are.
Maybe google what to do for snake bites & snake identification, in my opinion this would be the most likely threat to anyone's life.
Brown snake would be the most likely offender. I suggest education for the kids, but I'd assume you have all done that as a part of your own risk assessment.
1) Are we each expected to bring a bag of firewood? National Parks in S.A don't permit firewood collection but it's probably a different story over there in Mexico.
2) Is Talbotville carry-in-carry-out in terms of waste? I'll resort to cans if so as I don't want to be transporting empty glass bottles around...

Firewood, we usually collect on the tracks in the arvo, the closer into camp the scarcer it gets, a bag of firewood won't last you long over here!
Talbotville is carry in carry out, yep hate to say it back on cans!
I'll take some more photos of Talbotville and post them after this weekend if you like.
Hope this helps, cheers

Will we get a program of what is happening so Lea can remind me before sleepy time each night?
