I will have a look through my install paperwork I assembled re the check valve. From memory it does go in the IAC (Idle Air Control) line. A normally aspirated engine will always have negative pressure (vacuum) on the IAC valve, with the supercharger there will be positive pressure (boost) sometimes. Using a check valve will prevent the positive pressure from affecting the IAC.
With the fuel injectors they are easy to remove with the inlet plenum off. I had mine cleaned/checked by a mobile injector service, one injector was over fuelling by a huge margin and another two were just out of spec prior to the clean. Well worth the effort i think.

I used an in-line vacuum check valve normally used for brake boosters.

    • is it possible to hook one of these superchargers up with a missile switch to turn it on and off? I helped a mate install one on his 2.7L 2wd hilux years ago. We used the MR2 side mount style supercharger and hooked it up via a missile switch.

It was great, he got the round town economy and then when he wanted a 60% power increase flicked the switch and it was a weapon. Always wanted to do one in a 4x4... No reason the same setup wouldn't work with a 3.4 I guess... Totally different to this top mount blower though.

      Awesome work Glen!

      • Glen,

Thats the IAC alright, I will check my notes tonight and let you know which way to fit it.
The aim is to allow air to by-pass the throttle body butterfly at idle speed.

Prado2004, the scroll type of supercharger we are using doesn't allow for Mad Max switches however they do have an internal by-pass which reduces the parasitic load when on a trailing throttle. Down to about 1hp if I recall correctly, then you get that nice little whine as you push the fun pedal

Thanks for the info Lee. Through online research I've also found that brake booster valves are probably suitable, such as the inline one used on the Prado in between booster and intake plenum.

              • glen_up the dipstick is a tight fit even with the trd bracket my tensioner rests against the tube without the belt installed

                • Glen,

Definitely a good move to have the injectors cleaned properly at this stage of install.
As Rossy said it's a tight fit for the drive belt & tensioner.
The drive belt is one spare I ALWAYS carry (2 actually) because it is not normally available in Aust. I know Bullet carry them or you can order from the US.

An inline brake vacuum check valve will work well, my Prado had ABS & Traction so does not have a traditional brake booster so didn't even think of it.
Possibly you can source one from a wreckers of Repco.

Always fun doing mods I think I spent longer cleaning threads etc. and ancillary gear then actually fitting the blower.

Thanks for the tip mate. This purchase is missing all the usual bracket goodies so knowing what's normal and what isn't is quite helpful

Yes, I agree regarding the injectors - it was quite frustrating pulling the charger back off when I was close to completion, but I'm glad I did and I'm sure it was worth it. Of course one could go much further and start upgrading head gaskets and internal engine parts - but I'll leave that for a rebuild when it's required.

I only have this one belt but 2 more are on order from USA

Regarding the valve - I had already tried Repco, they didn't really know what I was talking about and couldn't help. From Toyota they're $40 - $60 brand new. I picked one up from a brake shop for $24, and then shortly later visited a car wrecking yard and saw literally hundreds!! I know where to go next time
