  • 6x9 component speakers for the front

    Hello guys,

wondering what speakers people run in there front doors?
i have heard of a few people running normal 6 inch speakers but i would like to keep them as 6x9s component speakers for a little bit of bass.
but they are pretty hard to come by.
    i found these on ebay

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Focal-ISS...oAAOSw3v5Yopft
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cadence-C...0AAOSwEK9UKN4l

does anyone else know of a good set of 6x9 component speakers that wont break the bank?

ive just 3d printed some speaker surrounds for the rear and now im keen to get started on the front!

I'm running Pioneer 6x9" components in the front and 6" in the rear. Whichever way you go, you'll have to either cut the old speakers out of their cradle and modify it to accept the new speakers, or you will have to buy/make new speaker mounts. I chose the former after seeing a previous post on here. It's a bit of a faff as you need to cut the speaker out, saw around a centimetre off the front of the mount, drill holes through it so you can bolt the new speaker to the old mount and then cut/bend a small bit of the inner door away so the bolt heads clear the metal. Took me a morning all in, plus a few scraped fingers! New mounts would probably be easier but the advantage of using the modified original speaker mount is that you keep the water/weather shield and the correct distance from the outer door so the window moves freely.

Im all good with mounting them i've actually already done the rears,

i 3d printed some speaker surrounds so that i could keep the mounting similar to the original (see picture below or in my build thread)

i was more asking what speakers people are using. 6x9 inch component speakers are proving pretty rare and hard to come buy...

where did you get your pioneers from and how much did they set you back?

        Hi Leont
Nice job on the speaker upgrade, those 3D printed mounts are sweet.
Can we expect to see these offered in the "for sale" thread any time soon.😉
        Cheers

Very nice mounts - I should have thought of that as we have a few 3D printers at work! My speakers are actually 3-ways - http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Pro...nuFrom=1021693 I'm not massively up with the different configurations!
Not earth shattering but a lot better than the originals. I have similar in the rear, just 6". They sound OK, especially after covering the area of the door with Dynamat. For components I would imagine just fitting 6 or 6.5". When I was doing mine, this was a popular conversion. If I ever get around to doing mine properly (amp, sub etc.) I'll definitely change the fronts out for 6" components.

yeah, if people are interested i could definitely make up a few more.
i would just have to figure out a fair price.
factoring in the down time on the printer is the hard one as they take about 6hrs each.

or maybe i just need to find enough people who are interested so i can justify buying one for home

unless you are willing to share the 3d print file, and people can source their own? It is one of the benefits of 3d printing - you can make things available to anyone
