  • New battery time

My Prado is a weekend warrior these days so it doesn't get driven much. My trusty Optima D27F cranking battery, 4 years old, has decided it doesn't want to hold charge anymore. I've had it on the ctek but I'm not going to trust it.

Options are, another Optima, Exide Extreme or Century Overlander. The Optima still has higher CCA and better recharge time, which is why I bought it for winching. However, at twice the price I am considering other options. I do like how the Overlander has twin posts which would tidy up the accessories and just leave the main posts for the winch and starter.

    Thoughts...

I'm in the market for something soon to replace my current primary, currently have a RACV battery 5 years old (still ok) - a rebadged Century 86MF. Got a dual battery setup with the Bond DCM356SMF as the secondary.

Was previously considering a Bond Battery 385SMF (750CCA 95AH) but don't like the smaller CCA. Anyone got opinions on Bonds as starters?

Current shortlist is between 2 SSBs:
    SSB 900CCA 21kg 3.5 Year Warranty

    SSB 105AH 780CCA 27kg 3 Year Warranty

Both around $280, good warranty and brand reputation AFAIK.

Optima (or similiar) would be great of course but for me, I'd consider the Century - lighter than the Exide and Australian.
      Cheers

I've been running the Century Overlander for the last 12 months without an issue.
I considered an Optima a the time but when I weighed up all the specs I went with the Overlander, especially when I picked it up for $200.

I had an Optima which died a premature death also, trying another will see how this one gets on.

I would have used a Marine pro except for the terminal configuration, maybe another of the
          Century batteries?

Others have written that you can't go past CAT batteries, would have tried one but couldn't
find an easy source of purchase.

I also had an optima that failed early after lite usage. Never again in my book.

Supercharge Gold for me. Running near to 6 years now. Took it to the battery place I bought it from and they checked it - CCA rating still good. Come back next year.

There's a new Overlander maintenance free version that as the twin terminals, it has only been available for a few months. I'm leaning towards that.
