Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere already, I couldn't find an answer to this specific question.
I bought my 2005 petrol Grande at 90,000km, previous owner had installed Bilstein A712 shocks and Ridepro ZC7296 front springs. I'm now up to 250,000km and the car has had an easy life during my ownership, very little offroading or even touring. We are heading off on a big trip in a couple of months towing a trailer to places like Oodnadatta track, Gary Junction rd, Gibb River rd etc.
My 4wd mechanic says the shocks still look OK, no sign of leaking or anything, and the ride & handling around town certainly seems OK to me (but as this is the only prado I've driven I don't have a comparison). I'm replacing the airbags pre-emptively on advice from PP members but I'm wondering if it would be wise to also replace the springs/shocks before the trip. I dont particularly feel the need for 50mm lift but a small lift would be good. From memory current heights are around 740/790mm front/rear. I'm running an ARB deluxe bar + dual batteries + compressor in the front.
Should I replace the springs & shocks of this age (160,000+ km) pre-emptively before a big trip, or leave them alone if they look OK and there are no problems currently with the handling? Any advice much appreciated!
cheers
