  • Servicing - Post warranty

I'm interested to know what most people on here do wrt servicing their Prado after it comes out of warranty. I have a 2010 GX that has been on lease and serviced at Toyota right up until the end of its extended warranty. Now that it is mine to do with as I wish, I have called a local (recommended) workshop and they have a minor/major service option, or they can do a logbook service. My initial thoughts are to go with the manufacturers recommendations, but I thought I'd ask here and see what the pradopoint crowd do to form an informed opinion on the matter.

So what do you do with yours?

Major/minor/major/minor and just fix stuff when it goes wrong? Or by the book?

    Thanks.

After the 36th month capped service, Toyota will never see me again. Its straight to my local mechanic for my services post warranty.

I am done with Toyota too, but my question is do you still follow the logbook service regime for preventative maintenance or just alternating between a "minor/minor" service and fix problems as they arise?

      Thanks.

I guess that all depends on how much work it does and how you use it. If you spend a lot of time in the bush and on long trips in remote areas, then obviously a good PM program is critical. If its used sparingly, like mine, then a more relaxed service program would be ok I reckon. Having said that, I would still go by the service book and get it signed off.

If you can't do it yourself then try to stick to logbook servicing, however there are some items that are not required every service and some that need more regular attention depending on how you use the car.

Thanks for the info guys. That makes good sense. I do basic stuff (oil and filters) myself, but I think I'll stick to the program for the other stuff.

I never went back to Toyota after the 1000km 8min 30sec inspection.

Berrima Diesel since the 10,000km service for mine (helps living there). Rather pay someone who knows what they're doing and has their own reputation to back and risk than some apprentice who doesn't care working for a manager who doesn't care and a distributor only getting $220 for 3 years.... But by the book, for certain, so the warranty is still in place.

Having said that, it's primarily because I can't stand the poor work of my local Toyota. I am sure there are awesome Toyota dealerships out there - just not near me.

It's actually $210 but FYI the dealer claims back the difference of the real cost of service and the $210 off Toyota so he gets his full service cost.

My dealer is pretty good and from owning many cars and trying many alternatives, dealers, local independents, and bigger guys i've had hit and miss with them all so I always go by the moto find a good one and stick with him even if he is a bit dearer. http://www.pradopoint.com/images/icons/icon11.png
