Is it possible to hellicoil auto sump plug?

Just did an auto oil change and the plug thread feels shady and I didn't feel safe cranking it to 15ftpounds as it didn't seem to be nipping up very well. So next change, can I he'll coil it or do I need a new pan?

You could always tap it to the next size up plug if you've stripped the sump itself. That's what I'm doing with my Falcon this week.

Hey,

Both the drain plug and the overflow plug on the auto sump seal with a Toyota OEM crush washer. That washer may not fit a larger thread size.

Unless you can find a larger diameter crush washer to suit, it might be worth looking at a new sump, no point risking damage to the auto with an oil leak, too expensive to fix!

you could get a welder mate to tig a new nut to the outside and make it stronger than factory standards!

Take the sump off and to an engineering worksho and ask them to weld and re tap the thread.
