    Gday guys
    Having a bit of a look on here to see whether anyone has increased the boost on their 120 Prado 1KZTE. Ive put a new exhaust on, 2 1/2in right through with a smaller muffler apart from that its standard. Someone told me I should increase the boost a little to compliment the new exhaust. Now obviously I dont want to go to far as it will effect economy and put extra stress of the engine.
    Ive added a boost gauge and it appears standard boost is around the 9-10psi, any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

    Don't know enough on this matter to pass on good judgement/knowledge. Have a 2.75" Beaudesert exhaust with a Steinbauer chip on factory setting.

    It was running rich so took it to a specialist dyno shop. Told them I wanted to keep it many more years and not f#*! the engine. Went away and they slapped on a tee boost running at 12psi.
    They gave me a few graph printouts..basically now max 81.4 KW at the front wheels.

    The boost was adjusted to the chip to lean off fuelling so I think this cured the running rich problem.

    Overall it's running great. I drive like Miss Daisy so I'm hoping after all the dough I've spent on it, it will last for many many more years as I would like to keep it long term. I believe you are right, standard boost is @9 -10psi, the graphs I received compare pre boost and post boost (12 psi).

        I run 10.5-11psi (DTRONIC, boost controller, Std exhaust with straight through muffler), but I have taken the ball out of the boost controller so that it holds the wastegate closed until it hits the set limit, ie it spools up quicker. Some will advise that you can run up to 14psi, but I hit 14.5psi whilst dialling in the boost controller and the cylinder head cracked INSTANTLY!, like within 1km. Whatever chip/boost/etc changes you do you are flying blind unless you have access to the EGTemps. Tuning without that info is like gambling at the casino: the house always wins, you mostly lose.

          Your total engine life can be put in a formula:

          L=PxT

          L= engine life
          P=power
          T=time

          L is a constant, it is a fixed amount which is unknown but probably more than 1hr or 1Km.
          You can only change the other two variables. Increase one, decrease the other, but you always end up with the same result "L".

          It's up to you to decide which one you want more of: P or T?

          I have a DTRONIC, which is a rebadged Unichip ( Unichip can be programmed) in a mild state of tune (allegedly about 10% extra fuel). If your chip has adjustment, you can set your variables for the formula above. Whatever chip you use, fit EGT instrumentation and decide whether you want big fun for a short time, or less fun for a long time.

            Gday guys
            First of all thatnks for the replies. I do have the EGT gauge alone with the boost gauge so I can keep a close eye on the temps. I wasnt planning on chipping the old girl and im not looking to making her try to act like a F1 either just with the new exhaust which allows for better flow of the exhaust gasses I thought slightly upping the boost say to 11 or 12 might also improve the engines performace without creating too much extra strain on it

              I run mine at 12 psi with a 3" scotts rods exhaust no dramas
