Lifter ticking sound 120 petrol

Hi all
Have an 05 prado 4l petrol with 140k on the clock.
Well serviced its whole life.
I am second owner and know the original owner so i know it has never been thrashed or mistreated.
It has what i think is a ticking lifter.
Do those engine additives for ticking lifters work or do i need to have the lifters replaced.
Any experience or suggestions would be appreciated.

Quite normal. It has something to do with the design of the exhaust manifold and most if not all do it to varying degrees.

Yep common noise and more noticeable on passenger side

So is this sound actually the lifters or something else.
Is it fixable?

Not lifters. Pretty sure fitting a set of extractors will fix it. As does turning up the stereo!

....and closing the windows and putting a/c on! The ticking is the exhaust manifold [NOT leaking] and they all do it.

Mine makes that noise as well. Kind of sound like exhaust leak. Ticking at light throttle but upper rpm i don't hear it.

So.. its normal??
I don't understand thought how a good non leaking exhaust manifold can make that kind of sound.

Many posts about it already.
It's a well known and inherent factor of the v6.
Changing exhaust manifolds can help. Just learn to live with it.

Good excuse for extractors
I have Pacemaker and even then I can hear it ever so slightly. More right foot and the growl of the exhaust drowns it out, haha

could you tell me which pacemaker you got? can't seem to find one for 120 prado.

No idea. It was on it when I bought it but a few ppl here have them. They do make a 120 set.

Pretty sure its called the PCV valve, it bolts to the left hand side of the intake manifold. the ticking then resinates through the manifold and plenum.
Its a small plastic valve with 1 bolt attaching to the plastic assembly. I removed the bolt and fitted rubber grommets between valve and manifold which made a huge difference.
