  • Advice on purchasing a 2015 / 16 GXL

Hey guys! First post so please be gentle : )

I have always had jeeps (Because i'm stupid, or so my wife tells me...) and am making the transition to a Prado, FINALLY! I am looking at two models, and am wondering what the lowest price you think i could expect to pay for each:

    1) 2016 GXL... 16,407 Km ($59,000)

    or...

    2) 2015 GXL... 25,269 Km ($55,990)
    https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/d...gType=Showcase

Also If you have any further advice please let me know! I intend on having the dealer take the vehicle to ARB and have a few items added on (Dual battery system, fridge, roof top tent, new rails, compressor, awning etc...) so i want to rock up and say BOOM give me everything for this price (taking into account the advice i get here).

Thanks so much for your time guys!

New ones to be had for very close to second hand money - I always ask myself why would you get rid of a car with 16-25 thou on it ?

      True
i was in the market to get a 2015/2016 prado.
i have seen some 2015 ones go for around the 54k-55k mark and 2016 55k-57k after i did the maths and added the stamp duty and the rego costs i ended up picking up at 2016 plated prado last week for early 60's with accessories and full tank of fuel. Go with the new one just makes more sense.

I have just been thru the same issue, Ended up with a 2015 GXL 27k for 52k. I chose the 1kd-ftv over the 2.8L for a few reasons, The main been lack of DPF on the 1kd and it been the last of the era for us here in AUS it will have full DLC injectors and 120 series pistons. The bloke that sold it was heading away over seas for a few months and was keen to move it before he left.

          Good choice.

          I recommend sticking to 1kd-ftv.
          At least for now.

The issue you have is a new gxl can be screwed down to 60k.
So needs to be cheaper to be worth it.
            I'd take a high Klm's 2015 1kd-ftv & save $$$$$.

It make sense if you can replace timing belt, injectors, clean EGR and adjust valves all by you self .
Not to mention tyres ,dents/scratches and red dust in places you can't clean out.
For rest of us is $4-5k spend soon on high km car with dodgy service history and no warranty.
I have seen them all before buying new one.

I have put 1000kms on my brand new 2.8 GXL and can't fault it . Best vehicle I have ever owned and rock solid.

The only thing I don't like is the GPS head unit which is irritating and not as polished as the mrs new Mazda3 or I drive in the bmws.

Even after 1000kms the oil is spotless and no Perceviable DPF workings or issues (touchwood).

Looking forward to the new dual battery setup and a few other goodies before the waster trip.

For the price between new and 2nd hand see if you get pickup an ex demo or new one.

2017s need to be ordered within in the next month for a late march /April delivery. Along with a 1,500 price rise.

Where did you buy from. I just looked at a GXL for 62,990 but your deal sounds heaps better.

See how you feel when your timing chain fails at 50,000k. At least the first time will be under warranty. Maybe a cracked head? Or injector issues? Who knows I can't say :-)
Lets not mention dpf $$$$. 1gd has bigger badder egr meeting tighter emissions :-) more soot.

Last of the 1kd, pretty good option at this stage.

T belt is $300 every 150,000k, easy DIY.
Injectors once replaced to full DLC denso are very long life, maybe never replace.
Clean egr is only once as we have a great 7mm solution.
Valve almost never need adjusting, very rare!

Are all the new Denso injectors Full DLC, or you need to ask / specify?
