  • Air con problems

    Hi All

I have a 2007 120 series with the front and rear aircon. We had a 43 degree day last week and it took my aircon
around 15 minutes to get any where near cold, and even then it was not as cold as my other car.
After looking I see their is a pusher fan on the front of the condenser. I cannot get this to work. I have pulled this off
and hooked up 12v direct to the fan and the fan works but the car itself is not switching this fan on.
The compressor is engaging when I turn the air con on it makes 2 click sounds when engaging.

Any help with this would be much appreciated as I'm scratching my head. The aircon was regassed july last year
after I had the pipe with the sight glass replaced after gas was leaking from the electrical connector on that pipe.

    Thanks

Mate had same issues a few months ago in my 08 cold air only fron drivers vent and hot passenger's side and rear vents had air con guy look at it i had low gas thats the symptoms of low gas as it enters drivers side first and cant cool passenger and rear.... my condensor fan was same as yours nothing zip fine with 12v on it so my air con guy said high pressure switch dead and saved me somw coin with a bypass that now my fan comes on when the compressor kicks in .... might be your issue too switch is dead

The air is the same coming out of the front vents but it just took ages for the air con to get cool and last wed was a scorcher. I had the gas done in july so I'm thinking
it may be something else. I also had the pipe replaced that has the sight glass on it. not sure if that's the high pressure switch. if it is the new pipe came with that fitted

Mine had a similar issue then just before Christmas would not cool at all. Took it in for repairs and was thinking I would need to sell one of the kids to pay for it.
Got a call a couple of hours after I dropped it off he said it is fine all he did was test it. The first part of his test is to run on hot for 10 minutes then drop to cold and run for another 10 minutes and all was good. He said something must of been blocked or stuck. Has been operating as good as gold ever since and in fact maybe better than it has ever been.

The 120 also suffers from evaporator cracking and failure. Costs a left kidney to fix.

Ours is cracked but the leak takes 6 months to reach low pressure cut. If you smell a funny oil type odour that is the first sign.

my first though was the evaporator being cracked. the aircon guy I used spent a hour with the sniffer and the only thing he found was the pipe which got replaced. he was confident that it was not the evaporator. I tested my aircon last night in the garage. so it was not in the sun. the thermometer was reading as low as 5 but was pretty steady on 6 degrees. for some reason on that 43 degree day when my car had been in the sun all day the aircon would not work for about 20min. the only thing I can think is the pusher fan as it does not seem to be switching on. As turtlewa suggested I will call his guy up and see about connecting the pusher fan to the compressor circuit so that it comes on with the compressor. if any one else has any more ideas I'm all ears.

Another test you can do Ambers is hot day idle with aircon on and feel how cold then drive it getting air over condenser and if it's cooler your fan is the issue me thinks

Hello, aircon problems can occur sometimes. You have nothing to do about it except call an aircon repairing service and ask them for help.
