  • Dash Cam Recorders - advice on units, sale prices, and to post recordings

Have finally decided to get myself a dash cam recorder. Too many idiots on the roads lately and also too many fools getting away with breaking the road rules without fear of apprehension.

I have purchased a Navman Mivue unit and will happily post a review once I've used it.

Thought it might be a good chance to start a generic thread for others to pass on advice on units, sale prices going and to post recordings of events.

I'm in the market for a dash cam - interested to hear recommendations. I note that the Navman MiVue's get some pretty ordinary online reviews, but there is a great deal on the Navman MiVue 698 (front and rear camera) at JB Hifi at the moment.

I just went with a couple of cheap ones from ebay. Navig8r ones for about 30-50 bucks each from good ol china. Have put them on front and back windows and quality isn't to bad. Just need a decent SD card to go with them.
As you say, way to many people in to much of a hurry to go somewhere and the number of them on their phones is scary.

I have an old Uniden twin camera but the downloading is crap. My missus has one of those $49 specials off Ebay and the heat has warped it. Just got myself the Blackview Truck edition with rear camera on a Christmas special. Features BLuetooth downloading and GPS facility.

I have blackvue with rear camera. Works great. it has it's own wifi to live stream whilst doing things. Or for the passenger to monitor the trailer whilst you are negotiating rough terrain and want to keep you eyes forward. Would recommend to any one.

I have the MiVue 358 and 630 and honestly prefer the older 358. I have recently posted this footage of my Prado getting wrecked while towing our caravan, scary stuff. This is footage is reduced in quality to allow me to post it but it is still pretty clear. I think the fact that I was able to provide this footage to my insurance company meant that my claim was processed very quickly. I have already posted this on another part of the forum under General.

Another vote for the Blackvue. I have had mine for almost a year now and it works great. A friend of mine who is a travelling salesman for a wine company has had several of the cheaper brands and they don't last long in the heat of the outback. He has had his Blackvue for about 2 years with no problems.

Ahhh.... I accidentally put a vote in for BlackVue (this is the edit if you missed it). If forgot that it was one I used to have - a Blackvue DR500GW-HD. I found it's software problematic and it kept over-heating. Google it and you'll find that the BV product over-heating is a common issue and constantly occurred, even after software updates and putting it over the air-con vents. I paid over $300 for it, and threw it out with the old car.

I prefer mine to have a small 1.5" LCD screen on it so I can see what it's looking at if I need to (no need for bluetooth) and change settings in the car. I hide it behind the rear view mirror, and can attest to the Mini 0805... It's smaller than the BlackVue, costs a lot less and the cable is long enough to go from behind the mirror, into the roof lining, down the A-Pillar, under the knee airbag and into the centre console cigarette lighter (Prado 150). Image quality is excellent - and unlike the Black vue - because you have a screen - it's options are customisable in the car (setting date/time, voice recording on/off - although BV has this, whether you want GPS speed on the image stamp, whether you want a Date/Time stamp, adjust date time etc etc etc - all of which I had to use software on the computer for the BV.

http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_113549.html - far cheaper than the Black Vue so wasn't hoping for much - but it's awesome.

I'd recommend going with a known brand. I purchased an eBay one for $45 and it lasted about 4 mins before it called it quits. I'm sure there's some decent eBay ones out there, but spend the money and get a decent full HD 1080p dash cam. I now use a mini 0806 and it's been perfect, just set and forget

Blackvue 450 well priced and great little unit. GPS tracking with google maps overlay and image quality is fantastic.

Blackvue are good. But I've also run the DTeg smarty HD. Tracking and all the normal stuff. Great unit and made for AU conditions.

Blackvue DR600GW-HD (single front camera). Not cheap.

Transferred it from the Prado to the 200 cruiser. Wired directly to the battery so it is operational during parking times, sits in pause mode and will active if a knock to the vehicle (why I park in parking spots with the nose facing out). Had it out in some hot country days, no problems, still keeps going.

Wifi compatible with Apple laptop so can downstream live, and capture live pictures or video on the move (downloads your vehicle speed at the same time, if you are a lead foot driver).

I had tried 4 different dashcam include 2 cheap ebay products, a MINI 0805 and a Blackvue r450-1ch
The Blackvue one seems to be good in first year but after a year under the sun, the record color starts to be really bad.

I think MINI 0805 OR 0806 has really good price & built.

Yeah I have just bought one of those and once I figured out how to down load the software and use the device, I find it produces excellent, high quality videos.

                              Very happy with it.

                              Cheers.
