  • Winch Switch Question

Hi guys, new to PP, subscribed to this as will probably be doing up a prado in November this year with my old man to go camping.

On the subject of dash switches, if I get something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-24V-7...4AAOSwA3dYGp-1 to control the winch (In/Out) do I still need to buy a winch on/off switch, such as this? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toyota-Pr...YAAOSw9NdXsb5k

    Thanks all

Whilst one switch will control winch in/out, you need some method of isolating the winch from the battery so you don't inadvertently activate the winch when not required.
I have a remote control for the winch (which is really handy) and also a cable operated control that can be plugged in, but also I have a manual winch power isolate switch near the battery ...like this ..

The winch power button that you indicate, from what I can see, would almost certainly have to operate a relay somewhere near the battery/winch, as you couldn't have full winch current coming all the way to the cabin and through that switch. So...to answer your question, if you have a winch in/out button mounted in the cabin, you still need to be able to isolate the power to the winch somehow...with either a manual battery isolate (as in the picture) or a button that operates a relay near the battery....that's my thoughts anyway.

wont the winch come with its own controller I used http://www.sidewinder.com.au/page81.html one of them on the last winch I played with, the contractor I used might of been rated 150 amps you can use any switch you like to turn it on it just stops the old story of people wrapping the winch cable around the car, hot wiring the winch control and pissing off.
I got myself some Big Horn Maxxis and was telling my landrover lover mate he said what size did you get I told him 265/75/16 he said I didn't know they came that small.
