  • Horn and Cruise Control Died

This has just happened to my 120 series 2005 GX. I have checked all the fuses which are ok but I replaced the 10amp horn fuse as a precaution to no avail. The cruise control was fitted after market but has been trouble free since 2006. Any ideas where the problem may lie?

Yeah probably could be the clockspring unit in the steering column. This is a encapsulated ribbon cable assembly behind the airbag so the electric switches on the wheel work that rotate with the steering wheel. Common failure in the 150 series so I'd assume in the 120 too. Depending which core of the ribbon cable breaks determines which function goes. Or it could be something else.

Sometimes when you rotate the steering either to full lock left or right, the broken core in the clockspring may make temporary contact so the horn might work intermittently. Give that a go. This is an easy way to tell if it is the clockspring assembly at fault.

Google will give a better idea of what they look like.

Where is the aftermarket cruise fitted however. As if not steering wheel mounted and going through the clockspring itself it won't be that.
