  • Blue Tongue MKIII Compressor

Hi Everyone new to this but been checking out all the very useful info on here. I am new to owning a 4wd but keen to get out and have a go.

I have a question about the above mentioned compressor that's is already in the car when I bought it. The guy at ARB said I needed a special handpiece as the Blue Tonge doesn't have a relief valve and will burn out without one. I have tried a few stores and nobody seems to know and nothing online either, can anyone shed some light onto this please ?

    Cheers

I have a blue tongue compressor in my work ute that must be at least 10 years old. Is the 4th car its been in and never with any relief system. Always hard wired in with just a hose attachment. Heaps of use in the ute with the occasional truck or grader tyre. Was used on one occasion to pump up the air system on a railway track machine that had it running non stop for 2 hours. Great compressor, just not the highest output. If its not making any strange noises, then i reckon you leave it as is.

Perhaps he meant it needs a pressure switch so that it turns off when it hits a max pressure - if you're just using it to blow up tyres it shouldn't be an issue. If you've got it hooked up to diff locks then it may be a problem.

Yes, a pressure switch to automatically switch the compressor off and on as line pressure reaches various set points. Places like the airbag man sell pressure switches. Just wire it into the relay that electrically switches the compressor on, I would fit it in the switching circuit terminals 85 or 86.
