  • Prado to get 3T towing

    A little birdy told me that Towing capacity will be upgraded soon. Minor changes such as Radiator volume and some other small changes will allow this to occur. I know a V6 Diesel continues to be on the radar but nothing confirmed on this.

    GCM on a 90 series is 5270kg with a tare of 1770kg.
    Leaves some up your sleeve for towing 3t.
    Of course if you load the car up to its max GVM of 2770kg, you reduce your tow mass to 2.5t, guess that's why the tow bar is so rated.
    Once you move to a 120 or 150, the tare goes up effectively reducing your tow mass.
    That's my take on the figures.

      I had my 150 upgraded last week to 3T /300kg BW.

      I haven't towed with it as yet but I will let you know how it goes.

          Nanbar

          As usual I got carried away from the standard up grade and ended up with a 2" lift with adjustable shock as well.

          The standard upgrade is springs, shocks and airbags as well as new rating labels on Towbar, Gooseneck and spec label on vehicle. Plus an Engineers Inspection and a free trip to RMS to get the figures changed on the Rego Papers.

          Stock upgrade was approx $2,600 plus $450 for Engineer. RMS was free.

              I just can't see how the little 3.0L diesel could tow 3.0 tonne by just spring upgrades.
              I got a 1700kg camper and when towing that I feel the Prado doesn't like it too much.

                The heaviest thing I have towed with it was a tandem trailer with a mini excavator on it. Was pretty close to the weight limit I reckon but towed it like it was having a s---. Towed to from Melb to Daylesford and back, cruise control on, didnt miss a beat.
