  • Dont strap the Max Tracks to your spare!

This is why you dont strap the Max Tracks to your spare tyre when driving on corrugations, this tyre had never been on the road.
This happened to a mate driving in the NT

Looks like he strapped them teeth pointing in. If you do strap them teeth pointing out.

Pretty sure the Maxtrax was oriented as per the image below to make the cross-shaped indentations on the tyre.

The harness actually keeps the MAXTRAX off the tyre up the top and the latest version has a section of rubber to protect the tyre.

So it does. I've only carried mine like that once and that was the last set of tyres anyway. These days it's on the roof.
                Good tip though.

I don't think that harness was used in the OP.

I actually have one of these harnesses for sale if anyone is interested.

Tbe harness does keep the Maxtrax off the wheel and are a good thing if you done have a roof rack or itis full of other gear.

I think you're on the money there Andrew. If you've got a rear bar like the OP, the harness is the way to go... the extra kgs on the back door is not good for the hinges. Regardless, I'm sure the OP's mate has since invested in a harness or now chucks them on the roof...

I made some brackets for my Tracklander roofrack and carried them flat on the rack. But they took up so much space so I got these:

                          https://4x4designs.com.au/product-ca.../raptor-racks/

I carry four Max Trax and they are padlocked in 2 places.

Where do most people store their maxtrax? I normally just chuck them in the back of the car... which is alright until you realize they're covered in sand/mud!
What's best on the roof or the rear?

Mine are stored on the roof rack, though I would like to get some mounting system that doesn't cost as much as the track themselves.

Has anyone come across some cheapish mounting system with Lock for roof rack. I normally remove them while wife is driving around CBD, though our last trip down south I didn't think I would need them, but came across a great track down to the beach, then instantly regretted it. We were on our own.

The other option I guess is strap to the Cargo barrier though will prevent some visibility in the rearview.
