  • Anyone done a axle/hub upgrade on jayco camper to match prado?

Looking at doing 4 month trip with prado and jayco dove outback and thinking about tyres and spares.

Has anyone matched their jayco camper to match a 150 series prado?

    What did you buy?
    Where from?
    Cost?

    Cheers,

What offset are the current wheels? And how much clearance is there between the tyres and chassis? Those will be the biggest questions. Places like ALKO can supply hubs including M12 studs but if you are running Patrol wheels with 0 offset going to P25 might get everything too close to the chassis without an axle change. On Tvans there are two different axles to suit P0 and P30 and going from one to the other is very expensive.

Also ,from memory, there is not much clearance when you actually get to take the standard wheel off when it is jacked up so a 17" wheel , whatever the offset may be a drama. Cheaper and easier to get a spare for the camper and a second spare for the Prado.

I'm running 150 GXL alloys on my Jayco. Bought metric wheel studs, knock out the imperial studs knock in the metric studs, fitted factory Toyota wheel nuts and away I went. Mine is an Outback so is already running 6 stud hubs. You may not be that lucky though. If you have 6 stud hubs, test fit a Toyota rim on it and see how it goes for clearance, as mentioned previously there could be offset issues depending on what wheels were on it beforehand.

I use this but stuck with same hubs. But you could use what ever hub you want i suppose ? Down the bottom of the page they also have hubs
          Fantastic suspension for off road.

            Offset looks about 0.

On the outback it looks like the diameter is not a problem. But the big offset on the prado will mean a longer axle is likely needed

Is it independent suspension or solid axle? Easy to get another axle that is 60mm longer and install it.

                Hi Wil,

I have an Outback Eagle, and I have looked at fitting the Prado wheels to it, but while the total heights are not much different the big issue is the off set.
In my case the wheel hits the leaf springs and chassis rail well before I have the wheel studs through the rim. This could be corrected with a longer axle. The next issue is the entry step, it is already off set away from the wheel this would need to go or be stupidly offset.
Interestingly in a pinch the spare Eagle wheel will fit on the rear of the Prado, not the front the 15 inch rim fouls on the brake calliper.

                Cheers! Colin

Mine is solid axle, and i think the bushes inthe leafs are shagged so will look at upgrading all together. If anyone has the necessary measurements let me know
