  • 150 Kakadu KDSS Suspension Lifted 2".

Hi, I'm hoping for some advice & seeking experience from others that have had the same issue as this is doing my head in. Recently upgraded my suspension in the Prado with Bilstein shocks all round, 2" lift King springs up front & Airbag man 2" lift airbags in the rear. As such Drivers side rear measures 840mm & passenger rear reads 860mm. Regardless of what I do with the adjustment arms & packing washers to fool the sensors on the drivers side the measurement for both rears remains a 20mm gap eg. 800mm & 820mm 860mm & 880mm I haven't bothered to play with the passenger side to drop 20mm back but I didn't think I should drop this side down. Flicking the switch on the dash gives me an extra 40mm on top of these measurements either side but it still remains a 20mm gap. Any thoughts???

I have the VX and have a 2 inch lift without the issues you are having. I ended up with the King springs specific for KDSS which have a different spring rate. You may need to open the KDSS valves found under the sides of the vehicle to sort the problem out or perhaps your coils are the wrong sort.

What are the part numbers of the front springs?

Was the bleed procedure done on the KDSS components?

I recently took my Kakadu into my local Toyota dealership to have the KDSS system bled and reset as I was having issues with 1 corner sitting up something like 50mm over the other. They said a 20mm gap was the best they could get it to and was within factory specs.

I have Dobinsons springs up front but all the other gear is still OEM. We did use the washer trick on the rears but it was always fine prior to our last off-road trip. It seems to have crept up again so I'm wondering if I have a sensor issue on the rears somewhere.

Looking at the receipt there are 3 part no's as I also told Ian from King springs beside being Kakadu I had a steel bar & winch which would also need to be factored in.

          KTFR-101HHD
          ZRE (Reset down 10mm).

Bleed procedure was undo both bleed screws 3 turns. Once done put the car on the ground to let settle for 30 mins then tighten bleed screws? Have I possibly missed something here as I read somewhere procedure with Prado was slightly different to that of KDSS 200 series.

            Hey zakman,

I haven't ever bothered with the 30min settling.

A better method is to get a couple of mates to pull the high side down while the bleed screws are backed off 3 turns. With the high side being pulled down, rock it a few times, then while it is being pulled down, do up the bleed screws.

I've gotten the gap between sides to 10mm with this technique.

Do this technique repetitively until you close the gap to 10mm. Do it once, drive the Prado a bit, do it again a couple weeks later etc.

            Good luck!

ive got a 150 kakadu with a cal offroad supplied fox/airbag man suspension setup. has always had a lean of about 20mm as well in all 3 height settings. Ive been told by cal offroad ,arb and peter kittle toyota that the 150's kdss is not to be fooled with and bleeding has to be done with a special tool that not every toyota dealer has. all three also mentioned this is different for the 200 series which can apparently be easily bled as mentioned by whitey.

                Interesting comment richombx,

from all the people I have spoken to they bleed the 200 and 150s much the same and also end up with a lean to some extent

Can any one elaborate on the correct Prado 150 KDSS bleed procedure ?

Zakman, I think you need to get Techstream and reset those adjusters you have played with. I had a play with them once doing exactly what you did to try to fix the lean and it only got worse. Also the ride got even worse and felt like the back bounced around too much. I have found that the computer does some interesting things with the signal from these levelers. Put simply, when you adjust one side up, the computer adjusts the value on the other side down and vice versa. Even though you haven't touched that other side! When i first got Techstream i had stuffed the values so much one side was showing +150mm and the other side was -150mm. My ride height on the drivers side was around 780 and circa 800 on the passenger.

To reset it, I have found that you need to be on level ground (even a garage may slope to one side) tyre wear and pressures must be the same! With Techstream you can control the suspension to drop the all the air out of the suspension and lower the back end onto the bump stops. You can then measure the distance on the left and right side. You then adjust those levellers, when sitting on the bump stops, so they read the negative value needed to get to your desired normal ride height when the bags are pumped up to get a 0mm value. For example, if the left side was 745mm and the right was 740mm when sitting on the bump stop and your desired lift height needs to be 850mm then the adjusters need to show -105mm on the left and -110mm on the right when sitting on the bump stops.

Once the values have been adjusted, you then loosen the KDSS bleed screws as per the KDSS leveling procedure, pump up the bags using Techstream (without sitting in the car, and only pumping for less than 30 second intervals so you don't throw a code that needs to be reset) to get both sides level around 0mm. Measure to see if it is correct, tighten the bleed screws and leave it.

                    Great write up mr Ok,

Is there any trick for the front Or is the computer adjustment only for air bag rear on the Kakadu ?
