I towed a tinnie 600kms last week, vehicle is at about 19000kms. There has been a noticeable improvement in its get up and go since towing. Feels like it's somehow loosened it up a bit? Either way it feels much nicer to drive, even my wife( who hated driving it because it was too gutless in her opinion!) has noticed it seems much quicker.

Ha ha, yeah bum dyno is good. The wife wasn't in the car for the tinnie drive, only driven it before I left and after I came back. I always get better fuel after a long drive which I'm sure is to do with the dpf getting a good burn.. It loosened up a bit at around 11000kms but this time is more noticeable.

I agree with the comments about it loosening up. Mines just gone 14,000 and I've no issues with the power. I'd always like more but I'd say that no matter how much go it had.2016 Toyota Prado GXL auto. ARB deluxe bar, Rock Armor side steps, 9in Penetrator LED spotties (30,000LM), Uniden 8060 UHF, Bilstein/Dobinson 2in lift, 265/70/17 Mickey Thompson ATZ P3's, Safari snorkel, Dual battery system, ARB onboard compressor, Custom rear false floor, Kaon bash plates, Ext. diff/gearbox breathers, Provent 200, Wynnum tow bar, Roadsafe tow points, Phillips crystalvision bulbs, tint, Rhino rack platform.

Mine is a 2015 GXL. On of the last 3L. Just ticked over 40k and still feels like it's loosening up so to speak. The first time I really noticed it was around 15000km just after a 4500 km camping trip. But after every long drive or hard drive, it always feels better. More oomph and better consumption.

I agree with the 2.8 improving over time (mine is still only at 10,000) an also that it likes a long trip and to be 'worked' a bit to keep it optimal. But even when it seems down a bit (e.g. just before a DPF burn) it is still OK and always smooth. One forum member suggested holding the engine at about 1500-2000 rpm when static if you get the chance when it seems to be processing a DPF burn (higher idle, burning smells). This seems to work well for me (but no precise measures taken). I am happy to do my bit to reduce nasty emissions, but DPF is clearly a work around and I can imagine it will be superseded in time. I have never driven a 3.0 so I can't compare to that engine.

Sydney to Merimbula and back last weekend. Down via Canberra, back via the coast. 2015 GXL 2.8 with 10,000 klms up.
Driving at the posted speed limit or a few ks over, i.e. sensible speeds, no problem power wise. The only car which passed me at speed was stopped further ahead by a man in a blue uniform.

Agree with your comment Puddock. Having a car with moderate outright performance can help you licence. In my 2.8 I tend to be held up by other vehicles being driven slowly (e.g. waiting 2 seconds after the lights go green) and have never held up others except when they seem intend on breaking the speed limits by a major margin. I slightly miss the faster initial acceleration of my Kluger for when lanes merge after traffic lights, but probably makes me a more relaxed driver. Also worth remembering that passengers generally prefer a more chauffeur style of driving. I can see that a more power/torque would be ideal if towing 2 or more tonnes on a regular basis (thus LC200 comes into play)
