  • GME XRS370C Installation

My gorgeous wife bought me a GME XRS370C Compact UHF radio for Christmas

Has anyone else installed this model radio in their 150 Prado ?

Because everything is controlled from the microphone the main unit can be hidden away and there is even a remote microphone jack.

I would like to like to hide my main unit away behind the dash or under the seat and do it with minimum drilling or cutting so any ideas / photos would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jamie

Hi Jamie's, check a thread under "Acessories" titled "where to install cb radio" from July 2016. Installer fitted mine behind dash. Thread will provide some details.

I'm about to get one with the intention of the unit going around the left knee behind the dash and the Mic sitting up in the 'ditch' between the console with the Radio/ Air Vents and the console with the speedo. Whether I drill into that part to secure the Mic or use some magical tape that's probably going to leave just as ugly a mark I don't know...

As I write this - what about Velcro, and I staple the velcro to the dash with two staples (one top, one bottom)? Tiny pin-prick size holes would be left behind should I sell but that's better than a drill hole or tape that's glued itself into the dash surely...?

I fitted our GME headless unit behind the middle of dash, below the radio. It mounted vertically with the bracket screwed to the white A/C system plastic (after I cut off a small piece that got in the way but wasn't being used). There was some cutting but it isn't visible.

My installation is taken from ideas on Pradopoint and using what I thought was the best and simplest approach for each issue. I have GME 3550s with remote handset that has speaker. Power from auxiliary battery through drivers side firewall(constant power, less interfence to signal), as well as antennae cable(stub antennae on drivers side roof rail, as installers said "height is might", don't need pole on bull bar, drivers side antenna install best location so is not affected by trees). Main unit installed in centre dash under radio (couldn't believe how easy it was to take the fascia off, installer showed me). Microphone connection velcroed to passenger side. Clic On fitting for microphones required no drilling. Chose passenger side because left driver side uncluttered for leg room, passenger not affected (wife most of time anyway & she has short legs). Easy to remove if I change vehicles, works great.

I used the 'card holder' space, customised a switch blank and used a HoldMyPhone for the Mic (I have a Uniden equivalent). Power from the Cig lighter wire in the centre console.
