I wonder if its worthwhile keeping a bottle of stuff like "Penrite Enviro + DPF Cleaner" in the Prado?
Apparently, if you believe whats on the Penrite bottle, it cleans and regenerates DPFs, Clears blocked DPFs, prevents blockups and improves efficiency.
Its fairly expensive, and a 375 ml bottle is added to your tank with only 30 litres of diesel in it....who knows, it might help?SE Qld: GX 150GD Auto, (Feb'16 build): TJM T15 steel b bar, 9,500lb TORQ winch, TJM s steps, Rhino Pioneer Platform (42102B 1928X1236mm), front recovery points, Wynnum towbar, P3 brake controller, TNN Underbody guards, UHF, TREKtable & LED striplight, Custom Fridge & Drawers, Waeco CFX50, 9inch illuminator 160W LED spots, 40mm lifted Dobinson Suspension (Zordo's), ScanguageII, 30 Sec Wing Awning

Brogers:
The check engine light and the traction control light are because of the DPF light so don't worry. As I said I did nearly 3500 kms with the light on and Toyota was fine with that. So I would stress about stopping.
When the DPF failed the first time I used 4or 5 bottles of that penrite DPF cleaner (I had just filled up) disconnected the batter and the injector on the DPF and manaaged to force a burn but it failed again the next burn... always worth a shot!

It will only help if the 5th injector is active. So you need to catch it when its doing a normal burn unless you have Techstream which allows you to initiate a burn. Would love to know what the differential pressure readout is on the DPF. If you can get a hold of a bluetooth OBD (ELM327) and run Torque pro it could help diagnostically to see whats going on.

I'm in Fitzroy Crossing, and while not as remote, have experienced similar issues you describe with my 16 hilux. After 5 visits to Broome toyota of them telling me nothing is wrong, it stopped doing it. They must have done a software update on it. I left it idling for half hour, tried driving flat out, tried topping out 3rd for half an hour.. nothing worked until they "couldn't find the problem". It does need to do a regen everytime between here and broome, I think due to the low revs it sits on while highway driving

I have a manual so I don't think it can go into limp mode... I did have throttle restrictions but that was due to the dirty MAS sensor and once I cleans that it was all good..
I would highly recommend getting one of the Bluetooth obd readers, can easily see what's causing the issues and Toyota will usually tell you if it's safe to keep driving or not.

After cleaning and having the engine lights reset, I drove to Melbourne with no further issues. The Prado is at Airport Toyota today for more tests....
