Trip to Dirk Hartog Island

Hello All.

I'm intending to venture to Dirk Hartog Island in WA in the near future.

I was wondering if anyone has made the trip before?

I'll be towing a camper trailer with my diesel 120 (standard) and all loaded up the trailer will be about 1100kgs.

I'm concerned that the vehicle wont be powerful enough to make it up the formidable sand dunes on the way to Steep Point let alond on the island itself.

I haven't been to Steep Point for years but it was very sandy. Try 10psi in the trailer ,14 psi in the back and 12 psi in the front on the dunes.

Ive booked to go in June 2017 with my camper trailer as a tag along tour. Can't wait.

The next episode of All 4 Adventure are heading to Dirk Hartog Island so might pay to watch it and see how they go.

The last episode had them driving into Steep Point towing their big boat. It was difficult but taking it slowly they made it.

I saw that program too, that's what made me worried.
They had to winch up a hill even with a V8 Diesel. I dont have a winch, never needed one.

Although I'm sure my trailer is significantly lighter than their boat.

If I recall correctly, the guys at 4WD Action did this not too long ago and had some dramas with a camper trailer being towed behind one of the vehicles.

Just been reading a few different sites and apparently there is on e hill called "Tin Hill" which is steep but going in you go down it and then on the way out you go around a bypass.

Been in there a few times in my 120 towing a 5mtr boat, theres 2 hills on the way in that give me trouble but nothing a couple sets of maxtrax and a little bit of sweat don't fix...... The all 4 adventure guys seem to have a knack of making a few places look harder than they really are to get to, i guess it sells more dvd's...... Give it a crack as it one of the most beautiful places on the west coast and the fishing is good!
