There was more on this on "the other site whose name shall not be uttered", unfortunately now site is disabled.
Wow a thread with a result! I'm going to source a new TCV and try this thanks so much for this info.

Be warned turn it up too much any you will end up with a runaway engine (there's plenty of examples of runaway diesel engines on youtube) blocking off the air supply is the only way to stop a runaway .

While tuning my 1kz-te i would turn the nut from 8oclock to 9oclock which is just 2 or 3 mm on a nut so small , then go for a test run to see how it feels .It's a 2 minute job but it can make a world of difference .
Unfortunately it didn't fix the problem but big increase in power for first 10 minutes! Wow what a improvement I assume this will effect the fuel efficiency..

Strange that the CEL never comes on when Idleing, the steeper the hill the earlier the light comes on, if I'm coasting on flat road with very light throttle it takes a minute, if slight incline about 20 seconds and steep hill about 5 seconds.
I'm going to source a TCV and replace, while trying to source a Japan spec automatic 1kzte ecu.
Please keep other suggestions coming, thanks.

Well ordered a genuine TCV from Carmarka in Dubai for $300, installed it and after half an hour of spirited driving I've had NO PROBLEMS!!!
The motor instantly felt stronger and had power up all the hills. Probably a combination of turning the fuel up a bit as well but seems the TCV was playing up as soon as you accelerated nit just under load up hills. So happy we have our family car back!! Thanks everyone for all your input and ideas.
            Scotty.

Winner! Rare (but welcome) when the diag codes hit it first time.

                  Hey Guys,

It seems like I'm having almost identical issue to what has been described above. Idles like a dream and drives short distances easy but once the engine is under load (higher speed or up a hill) the power cuts back and occasionally stalls, however i haven't noticed an error code.

The problem started after switching to the sub tank and the first mechanic to take a look suggested that the fuel shut off solenoid was sticking - so my initial suspicion was dodgy fuel in the system as it seems unlikely a solenoid would spontaneously stick.

It's being looked at by a diesel mechanic at the moment so hopefully he can track down the issue - Just wandering what the likelihood is of dodgy fuel causing the same issue as the TCV

Hey everyone...im new here....i have a 1kz te engine with intercooler ....i have bassically the same issue as Big_cheese69 the only difderence is my CEL stays on constanty...i have massive loss of power...and very poor accerlaration...the engine sounds like it has a fuel knock (so called by a mechanic)*....i recently replaced the turbo charger with a brand new one. Someone ran a diagnosis o the vehicle and got the same code 14...i also replaced the TCV with a new one and im still getting the same issue...after replacing the turbo i got some thick black smoke when the vehicle is in gear, after cleaning out the EGR and the Injectors all smoke was gone..but i still have the same loss of power and poor accerlaration. I also checked the turbo boost control/map and it works fine. Im hoping is not the injection pump or ecu thats faulty because i wont be able to handle the cost of neither one right now...i also cleaned intake manifold...placed new oil and filter and new air filter...i saw some said somthing about checkin for air in the fuel line...so im goi to check it out today also going to get a new fuel filter. Could it also be the primer pump getting air into the fuel line???...or any other suggestions?? Please help

Also i didnt mention that the pump in the diagram is a bit different than mine...mine has 3 plugs ontop...and another thing is that...while one the road..if i switch off the vehicle for a few seconds then turn back on i get massive bosst and power but jus for about a min or 2 the its back to slow accerleration and loss of power..goin up hills is much worse and depends on the steepness of the hill it would practically crowl
