Aout 2 years ago i started using Conoco (now Kendal) Hydroclear Power D 15-40 which the supplier ( and ex - Conoco rep) said only needed changing every 10k. ( the ex rep said he used it in his racing car and was able to do one change every 3 races compared to 1 other oil brand users got.
I change the filter every 5k.
I decided to get an oil analysis done and everything was fine except the soot level was slightly elevated at 55.
From the analysis notes:
Soot is elevated at 55 A/0.1mm. Soot probably cause of engine
lugging, incorrect fuel settings, prolonged idling,
overcooling and crankcase blowby (defectif piston, rings,
liners). Clean or replace air filter element.
I suspect the elevated soot may be due to "overcooling", i.e. not getting the engine warmed up enough, duue toshort trips around town - it would be interesting to see analysis form other town diesel vehicles.
I have also read the EGR link http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-TE-EGR-System and am considering doing this as the EGR will obviously )?) cause elevated soot levels as well.
I am considering getting a dyno done, but at &150, and my PC hard drive maybe needing replacement, that may have to wait.
The oil rep also said the results were good especially as the TBN was 7.9 compared to new oil at 12.2.
