  • 120 Series roof load capacity

Hi Guys, new member here, sorry if this has been asked before...

I have a 120 GXL which I believe has a 100kg roof carrying capacity. I want to fit some Thule roof bars to carry a tinnie which weighs about 70kg. I already have the bars (2, rated at 100kg capacity), so I just need some feet to attach them to the anchor points on the roof (which doesn't have rails).

Now, my question: The roof has attachment points from three bars. Do I need to use three bars to get the 100kg roof capacity, or can I put the full load on two bars?

I'd be grateful for any advice.

    Cheers

    HI phil
The Prado roof rating is 100kg using the three mounting points and the Heavy Duty type rails.
Toyota Genuine Heavy Duty roof rack kit is basically the Rhino Rack Heavy Duty Bars and mounting system, rebadged.
This system mounts above the vehicle pillars in the position that the original sports rails were designed to be mounted.

The three bar system gives you your 100kg rating.

That would seem to rule out a roof top tent, then.

        2 bars gives you 80kg
        3 bars gives you 100kg

Roof ratings are for dynamic loads. Static load it will easily carry roof tent and people.
