    I have no regrets buying a second hand prado 150 v6, especially as we plan to keep it for a while. The only downfall is fuel consumption but we already knew that, the power delivery is awesome compared the diesel. We were able to buy a kakadu cheaper than a GXL! Just had to wait for the right car.

      Petrol 120 GXL all day long in my garage!
      Does that mean if you'd bought a diesel it'd be out on the road instead of tucked up in your garage all day

        I wouldn't buy a diesel.

        My petrol Prado has been across Australia twice.

        Go tuck yourself into bed now!

          Great petrol

          I too am very seriously wanting to buy the petrol. It seems the complex diesel and lack of power will be an issue for me. I had a diesel before with one toooooo many crawl home modes (I vowed never diesel again). SOme say the petrol wont last but from what im reading i realy think its the otherway around. Any feedback would be great on realiabilty.

            Almost 150k on the clock I own a rare 2012 Petrol Altitude (now only available in diesel). Had my first issue the other day when I set off a traction control sensor whilst beach driving. A quick reset and problem gone. I have not babied mine with a 3 month trip around Oz with the family towing approx. 2200kg, Beach driving, 4wd in the high country, Towing a 1800 kg boat and daily trips to the city.

            I challenge anybody to drive the Petrol and Diesel side by side and then choose a diesel on driving alone. The only time I regret the Petrol is at the petrol pump. 12/100 is the very best I can do 14/100 more accurate on most times. If reliability is a concern with the petrol fear not this engine is a ripper and proven in the 120 series with 400k plus still going strong.

              Thanks Brett, Great to know. At 12/100 is 3 litres off a hundres at best on a Prado 2.8 (with regen etc). So thats about $5 per hunder difference or $50 per 1000 or 500 per 10,000 or 5000 per 100000 (5 years driving for me). I can handle that as long as it gets me. The PDF problems i had on my earlier one nearly (seriously) killed me and my family as it went into crawl home with a b double up my arse.

              Tell me what do you chew throught at towing the 2.2T. Ive herd some 2.8 diesels get 17-20 anyways (i know some say much less but is it understated??)

                          16-17 l/100 km in city. 12-13 l/100 in country with no racks, all terrain tyres, bull bar, lift etc. 15-16 l/100 loaded with previous stuff plus roof rack with tyre, maxtracks etc at 100 kph. Best of 18 l/100km towing 1100kg of camper and with all of the above stuff. As high as 24 l/100 km into howling head wind with camper etc. 19-20 l/100 km in desert- Simpson CSR etc. All over 110000 km. New 2.8 with 5000 km is about 11-12 in city and falling. Less than 14 towing the camper in mountainous areas and closer to 12s on the flat at 100kph. [2005 V6 VX auto]

                            Post #138 and #139 in this thread contain the number crunching for comparing petrol vs diesel over the last 10 years of historical fuel prices;

                              Between 20 to 22. I average almost smack on 20 when I travelled around OZ but not all was towing.
