  • Longreach Waterhole, Elliott, Northern Territory

With the planning underway for the trip north to the start of the 2017 GTG I have been researching camping spots and have discovered Longreach Waterhole 12km west of Elliott in the Northern Territory.

Just wondering if anyone has been there and if so what are your thoughts?

From what I can find and read, the turn off is just over the cattle grid on the northern end of Elliott and then just follow the un-signed track.

Thats right Vaughn, the dirt road about 10m past the grid on the left heading north, continue along the dirt road and dont turn off to the cemetry, nice spot for the night

Wikicamps has a 4 1/2 star rating with 127 comments all speaking very highly by the looks of things.

On our list of top bush camps.Great shaded camping abundant birdlife
        Only downside "Mossies at dusk"

Haven't been through Elliot for a few years but the police were red hot with all cars being stopped back then.

        Enjoy

I went through there last July, quite nice, just don't plan on anything in Elliot as when I was there it was a little bit ordinary with some unrest with the locals and the Police having "discussions".

If you get a chance stop in Katherine and do the gorge boat trip couple of hours but quite spectacular.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Agree 100% but book early for the morning tour. Fills fast. The gorge looks better than under the harsh middle of the day daylight

No time to stop as it will be over night at Elliott and then the next night is Darwin.
