UCAs are another can of worms it seems. It's a shame the Fulcrum arms don't allow another 5mm of travel. I've been looking at the SPC/Light Racing ones.

      Hey,

SPC Light Racing arms have a lengthy history of problems, butt weld cracks on the ringeye leading to arm-ringeye separation, bush failures, ball joint failures etc. etc.

I would also advise to keep the maximum strut length to 570mm. At 575mm everything is already pushed to the limit on the IFS.

Ah, ok, thanks for that. I'll cross them off the list.

I hear what you're saying about going to 570mm max but from doing some reading around, 575 shouldn't be too much of a stretch and still be within the working limits of the IFS and the CV joint. It would also remove quite a specialist step from the install if you could avoid having to strip and reassemble the struts.

In your thread on the Fulcrum arms you mentioned they were looking into a high angle ball joint and slight relocation. Any idea if they've managed to get any further with that?

          Hey,

Unlikely Fulcrum will modify anything soon.

Try a Blackhawk with a 75deg Moog, that will get you 580mm bind on the balljoint and allow you to run a 575mm open length strut.

Thanks for the info on the UCAs Mark, I'll be following your suggestion.

Do you have any info or specs on thr threaded sleeves you had from PSR? I've been in touch with Sydney Suspension and they didn't seem too keen on doing the work so I'm going to piece all the parts together and do it myself.

            Cheers, Dai

              Hey Dai,

              The info you're chasing is here;

              http://www.performancesuspension.com...psrslv-50.html

Just tell PSR you're using Bilsteins on a Prado when you order them! They come with a c-spanner as well.

Surprised to hear Sydney Suspension weren't up for the build!?

                Hi Mark,

Right, I think I'm getting there with the parts:

Where did you source your rear Dobinsons 487 springs from? I haven't been able to find them online.

My next step is to get the new circlip groove cut. How did you calculate the position of this? Yours looks to be about 10mm or so above the Bilstein logo. Would it be worth making mine a bit lower, as the free length of my springs is a little longer but they are also a little softer?

How was the pressing of the threaded collar onto the strut? I'm wondering if heating the collar and using a shrink fit would work.

                Regards,

                Dai.

                  Hey Dai,

                  Nice work!

I had the C59-487 (280lb/in and 430mm free height) knocked together as a custom job a couple of years back now. It is a standard part number now, but not many Dobinsons distributors are likely aware of it. If you have an issue getting it, call Martin at Sydney Dobinsons, I'm sure he'll sort it out for you. If not, call Ben Dobinson in Rockhampton.

My coilover sleeve is 166mm from the ringeye center. You can definitely lower this to accommodate a taller coil, there's a good 40mm underneath to play with!

Regarding the coilover sleeve, do not heat it up!

The sleeve is designed to be a dry press fit so that there is as much frictional contact as possible to prevent the sleeve from rotating on the strut body. That way you can rotate the preload collars in-situ to adjust your ride height without the need to take the strut off the vehicle again.

The sleeve will dry press straight on, there's nothing complicated about it, see the 5th photo in the first post of this thread. It might scratch up the strut paint a little as it goes on, but that is no big deal.

Also, double check the included angle on your Moogs before you press them into the Blackhawks, should be around 75deg.
