Is there any point me trying to rebuild this or is the done thing to buy another alternator?
Who is your favourite parts supplier I'm too poor to go to a dealer is winning so far http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Alternato...-/271210994864
How much brushes should I see on a working alternator? I guess the fact its half full of mud didn't help the cause .

Those brushes are either stuck in with mud and gunk or pretty worn, they should reach to approx the middle of the shaft when new, you can probably get replacement brushes on ebay or through an auto lecky. Much cheaper than a whole new alternator.

There was more than brushes wrong with it I put a new set of brushes in it still wasn't charging. Of course the wrecker around here didn't have an alternator.
It seams 90 series parts are hard to come by is it just because i live in a crap town?

I thought about that 1 but how much life is left in it a new 1 was $220 delivered if the local wrecker had 1 he would of charged me $125 with 30 days warranty I thought that 1 was a bit dear.

Think the eBay new alternators would prob be the cheaper option than genuine.
Where abouts are you in Australia? You could try Gumtree, if not already looking there.
