  • Thoughts on buying a high klms petrol 120 series

Hi, I have around 12k to spend on getting a prado . I have come across a 2003 Gxl with 287ks with bull bar, winch, 2 inch lift, service history and new cooper tyres. It is a few hours away so I am yet to look at it.

    My questions are

what sought of life would I except to get out of it if properly maintained?

he also said there is some small surface rust on the top of one of the doors is that common?
(He is sending a photo through of it and assures me there is no more..)

I read the buying guide and so far has its been a big help.

    Thanks for any advice

Any engine maintained properly will go a long way. The Prado V6 is usually one of those.

Personally I wouldn't be too concerned about the kms. Just make sure you get a good mechanical check beforehand. I bought my 1997 90 series with similar kms and have now got it up to about 427k with a few repairs along the way but nothing substantial. 2004 120 series I bought early this year with 200k on it and similar accessories, for similar money to the one your looking at and am very happy with. Did have to replace the starter motor a few weeks ago due to worn brushes but have ordered new brushes so will have a spare for about $35 worth of parts. Will be doing a trans fluid flush next as I'm not convinced the Toyota claims of never having to change it can be good for it in the long run.
1997 petrol auto, 430 000km. Still going strong.
2004 petrol auto, 233 000km. Cracked dash and no help from Toyota!

Just like me and many others that where unaware, don't be surprised when you take a petrol 120 for a test drive you hear a ticking noise that sounds like either sticky lifter or slight exhaust leak. It is quite normal though not every one does it. More info here.... http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...n-acceleration
