  • 50mm lift: what do people recommend?

    Hi all.

I'm about to get my 120 gxl v6 lifted. I had my heart set on Bilsteins with King springs, however I have now read that the bilsteins are prone to sagging at the back. I've also read that this can be resolved by installing poly bags.
This is a build in progress, I intend to have a steel bullbar, winch, duel battery etc at the front and fridge, drawers, cargo barrier and rear bar at the back.

What would people recommend, I like to keep things simple so am concerned that adding poly bags is just introducing another point of failure.

    All help (constructive) welcomed?

Forgot to mention, ideally I want to maximise the 50mm limit

You do realise it's the springs that sag and not the shocks?

I have used the Dobinsons combo for years, we had a small percentage of issues with the front struts on 120's.
The service is second to none. They listen & have revised things & I am currently trialling a fresh set of twin tubes.
So far I'm very impressed & would still recommend using the gear.
From an Aussie suspension company, value, service, great design & travel lengths, many coil options, nice colours etc.

The kit is worth about a grand & fitting about $400.

        We also use MONROE.
Made in oz. with Dobinsons coils, made in oz.
It's depends on your use which combo I would recommend.

Go to Dobinsons Sydney and talk to them.

If you are planing to add weight on the front after the Suspension is done you may need to look at a bit of a compromise and put heavier springs to allow for the bull bar etc..
The MRR gear is a bit more expensive but the front struts are adjustable so when you add the accessories they can be adjusted.

Well that would make sense to me, but in other posts people appear to be talking about sagging issues specific to the bilstein 713's

That's incorrect. Where are these posts?

Needles to say I cannot find it, I thought I read about someone installing some bilsteins but then suffering from around 50mm droop at the back.

Needless to say I am not an expert in these things, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

OK you are confused here and it"s understandable if you have limited knowledge about suspension.
I am no expert but understand the basics.

Sag and droop are 2 different things

Sag; when you get a 50mm lift and after a while it is only sitting at 30mm lift

Droop: how much down travel you have when the wheels are lifted off the ground.

Someone please correct this if i and wrong

Ok I may have used the wrong terminology, from memory they were describing sag not droop! Regardless, I'm happy to put it down to my complete lack of knowledge ☺️

                      So what would people recommend?

                        Same as my previous post.
Yet to talk to someone with their gear that is not happy.

To confirm spring sag, you would need to remove the coil & measure the free height, if it is no longer the original spec free height it has sagged.
Then there is incorrect coil selection for the task at hand, this is much more common.

I want to lift my ride too, so I am looking for some custom springs for it. I guess, I will use those from http://www.sterling-springs.co.uk/ just like my friend does. I am not a fan of any spacers or something like that
