I wasn't given any paperwork with version numbers unfortunately but as cuda mentioned early in the thread the update is pretty new, how old is your vehicle? You're dealer might not be aware of the update perhaps?

Firmware update for 6spd Gearbox

Had mine done today, too early to say but seems smoother through the gears and initial response planting my foot is faster/more responsive. However there may be something jerky/clunky around low revs and City speeds but it's too early to say, only had an hour on it but it's done it twice already. Feels like it's short shifting then clunk.

Would love to say the firmware update has improved my vehicle but it still clunks around the same uphill corner at approx 63km/hr. To be honest I'm not sure anything is different at all. I'm still happy with the car overall but I honestly expected better from a 2016 model. After not getting any paperwork after the firmware update I'm a little sceptical if it was even done? If anyone works out how to check the firmware version please post it up. Cheers!

So I had the firmware upgrade and the injector re-learn. I think it drives better and a bit quiter, but it seems to still do the miss (if you can call it that) as described earlier. Toyota has been good but I can't replicate it was them in the car so I think they are reluctant to spend any more time on it.. it's not bad but it's still a bit annoying.
Not sure about my 'miss' at this stage though, it's been warm here the past few days and I haven't noticed it. Suspect it is still there though.Cheers

I think the clunk I referred to above is the same thing, and still there on mine after the update. Comes across as a lurch then clunk just under the 60 mark indicated on my speedo.
After the update I thought it was selecting gears better for roadspeed and load, but recently I found myself once again adjusting throttle again to manually initiate gear changes when it bogs down at constant load. Not sure what's up.

I will be following up with Toyota today to confirm what stage they are at in yet another firmware update.

Having an 'intelligent ECU' and the learning parameters that go along with it means you'll always be able to trick it by adjusting the throttle to modify its change pattern. I agree that 6th can be grabbed lower that I first thought - I noticed this the other day too when it slipped into 6th at around 80 - 90.
The clunk I believe is another matter perhaps related to the steering angle sensor that also drops out cruise control when the wheel approaches 45 degrees. I can make mine clunk into 4th by taking a certain corner whilst speeding up to 60 and the wheel is beyond 45 degrees.
My twitch though is better described in old fashion terms - a misfire. May be related to steering angle but I'm wondering about the ESC/VSC/Yaw Angle etc etc.
I know mine and Lski's are lifted - do you have a suspension lift cuda and RB80?Cheers

Initially Toyota said the behaviour was normal and was due to the intelligent ECU for the gearbox. I requested a Toyota tech come for a drive with me with the Techstream attached. After the drive the tech agreed that the gearbox was not behaving as it should and would be submitting his findings to Toyota. Incidentally I found out that 6th gear is selected at speeds as low as 80km/h and not the initial 100km/h I was originally told. The gearbox would need to be coaxed into changing gears with light throttle adjustments between 5th and 6th. I managed to hold 5th gear at 100km/h for over 5 mins on a flat section of road when it should have changed into 6th.

I do have what is being discribed as a misfire which I've detected occurs at around 1300-1400rpm, around 60-65kph under slight load and going around a slight corner. If all those stars line up I 'may' get the minor miss.
I actually thought the same thing about the ESC specifically and have begun some testing to see if I can replicate it with the ESC disabled. So far I haven't been able to, but it is only early days..
