  • Reversing Camera Licence Plate Mounting Advice

    Hi All

I've got an aftermarket reversing camera that came as part of a package for a replacement GPS headunit. It replaced one of the licence plate lights and it works well. However a couple of recent near misses have highlighted its limited depth of field. So I'm looking to replace it. I don't particarly want to move the light/ camera unit as the wiring is all in place. I've had a troll through 15 pages of search results here for "reversing camera" here and can't see any solutions. I did an fleabay search and there were over 1800 separate results for reversing camera in Australia alone.

My question to the assembled wisdom here: Is there an upgrade for the licence plate light camera? If so can someone please place a link?

    many thanks

Please clarify depth of field because in photographic terms, DOF is the amount of area that is in focus. Are you thinking of viewing angles? Can you post an example screenshot of what you see through the reverse camera? It would be impossible to see 180degrees with the usual reverse cameras on fleabay.

      Hi Amts

I'll snap a photo tomorrow and you can see what I mean.

        Hi All
Here's a photo of the camera's range. It is about 3.5 metres from the back of the car to the "blob" in the back centre of the photo. The blob is my daughter's legs. The paving is 6m wide. The camera was cleaned before the photo was taken and the slight angle on the screen was me not holding my phone straight.
Look forward to seeing what people have done.

Are you wanting the camera to point down a bit?

I was actually wanting to see more behind the vehicle, so something that is more "up" than down.

That's probably pretty good already. I'm more concerned about the blurriness of the picture.

The picture is a bit blurry which is also part of my desire to replace the camera. I cleaned the lens off before taking the photos.

Actually you are right. The field of view on yours is a bit limited. I had forgotten what mine looks like. So here's a photo. On the lower right corner, I can still see my towball. The spare tyre just comes into view on the upper right corner.

The previous owner installed the reverse camera and I believe that it comes as part of the genuine reverse camera kit from Toyota. It looks like this
