    Hi All,

    I have recently purchased a 2016 Prado, turbo diesel auto. Currently on about 4000km.

    About 2000km into it I started noticing a slip or flaring between 3rd and 4th gear, most noticable when cold and first drive of the day. 95% of the time it doesn't happen.

    I have taken it back to dealer. They told me it was a known issue, but not a recall item. The apparent fix was an Ecu recalibration of some description. This seems to have changed the shift behaviour slightly, but the issue has returned after a few weeks of what I thought may have been a fix.

    Anyone had or heard of a similar issue.

    Yep I also notice that when its cold. I haven't mentioned it to the service centre.

      Yep, seems that very occasionally happens to me but hadn't really thought about it...

      Will have to speak with my dealer I think.

        Is this happening in full auto mode or in semi-auto mode? Not noticed it on mine. It did seem to jolt occasionally in town initially but not so much now (I am also at about 4000km).

          I have only noticed it in fully auto-mode. I do get a jolt when taking the foot off the accelerator.

            It's in full auto mode under light acceleration, constant throttle position. Only ever 3rd to 4th gear. It's not so much a jolt, but is noticable as a slight delay between letting go of 3rd and grabbing 4th, accompanied by a RPM spike of 200-300rpm. When it does grab 4th it is still smooth in doing so.

              Dexter i have same issue with mine reported it to service when it had its 1000km check over and they told me could not fault it. But it only dose it when cold I have taped it with my phone to show them next time it goes in for service it did jump up by 500rpm on the shift change. Also have tried in both shift modes and i think it dose it in both

                I've also finally managed to film the fault with mine. Every time I tried it would not fault, but it is now doing it about 7 out of 10 times when cold. Video shows about 400 Rpm spike. I'll be dropping it in to the service centre soon. Will let you know the outcome. Thanks for the responses everyone.

                  Yep. Mine does it to, exact senario as mentioned. Only when cold and only between 3rd and 4th. Mine has done it since zero kms. Will be mentioned at the 10k service.

                    I have just visited my local Toyota service centre and taken them for a drive. Luckily the gearbox played up and a firmware update has been applied. A further update should be available to fix the flaring within the next 2 weeks. I have only driven the vehicle for about 40km's and am noticing a difference. When doing 100km/h the torque converter seems to be staying locked longer and is not shifting between top gears as much. Also noticed reduction in fuel usage seeing 6.1l/100 at 100km/h which I have never seen before. This may have been due to driving conditions but seemed more stable. Going on a 400km trip next week so will report fuel usage. Have read on the Hilux forums that manual drivers are getting almost ADR fuel usage values while auto drivers are seeing similar usage to Prado's. Maybe its all to do with the gearbox.
