Can we please have a picture of the serial numbers off the side of the old injector? Lets see how old it is.
Funny predicament the service team is in. The car is out of warranty by a months or so. At the last service I requested a cold start test (while under warranty) to check injectors as it was sounding noisy.

Left it there overnight and then they rang me up in the morning and asked if it was noisy on startup, because they just started it up and was fine. I asked how the cold start test went and they relied 'doing it now' - to which I processed to fairly have a go at them as the test was useless now it has been run. I had it logged as a failed test due to their stuff up.

3 months later, and injector is stuffed. Funny that. I have an extended warranty insurance but told them that it's their fault and I expect Toyota to be paying for it and not my insurance. Checked with the warranty insurer and they will only cover the single injector anyway. Service manager told me repeatedly that they will only replace the one bad injector and not the set, unless I want to pay for the other 3 myself.

Best bit? They haven't worked out who is paying yet so they gave me the car back and said its fine to drive for now until it's sorted. Sounds even worse today than yesterday.

I kinda hope the motor goes bang now, as then I'll have a shiny new motor at their expense as they sent me away with a dud injector and said it was fine to keep driving.

The one and only time Toyota did mine, the Dashcam caught them running the car, then the apprentice going off and asking what the test meant, then turning the car off, then plugging the tester in 20mins later. (Not to mention my car being used to drive to
      Someone's house over lunch. )

I went out and bought a Tech stream

Out of interest, is there a way to tell if your Denso injectors are remanufactured ones or brand spankers? Is there any issue with reman ones (DLC coated?)

How does somebody do a proper cold start injector reading test?

I have a techstream, I have the software working... Just don't know the correct sequence.

            Yes.
IMO yes. You want new, not re-man, unless there is an advantage, like BDG told us they did.
There is no advantage of an old DENSO injector. Not many re-man ones around. I don't touch them.
The best option now is new new or new.

Too hard to train you on that here.
But keep reading & you will see how all anybody talks about is feedback values. They are a good start.

I have had my injector feedback values tested for the last 4 services. On one service they only gave me the hot read outs which were useless without the cold as well. The service consultant then told me that I had to request the cold test as well - what a load of BS - I had never had to request it separately before. My last service was outside my extended warranty period so they charged me $135 for the tests. The strange thing is that my feedback values appear to have gotten better and better with age???? My 2010 has only done 83000km but I might get in touch with #### and get some new injectors installed anyway.

Thanks for all the info ####.

As I have said before its not all about feedback values. Total volume will always get worse not better.
Many parameters need to be checked, timing, duration, feedback for idle, load etc etc......
1234 feedbacks can vary a lot & it takes a seasoned professional to tell what's going on, unless its an obvious issue.

                That's obvious.

So understanding its not all about feedbacks, please be aware, most injectors wear out about the same time, like a set of bfg all terrains or Bendix brake pads.
This is why for pre-DLC injectors 5 year or 120,000klms, whichever comes first it the time to replace them.

Your injectors are highly likely pre DLC.
But the 150 injectors built from early 2010 were full DLC.
These will be found in varying date build 150's but likely 2012-13 as mentioned earlier.

So for you, a fresh set of full DLC brand new DENSO is the go

                  Just an update & reminder.
New DENSO Injectors are the go.

In the 150's parts, they have been building full DLC since around 02/2010.
This will be found in engines from about 2011-2012, it can be up to 3 years later.

So at 120k, if readings are good, we pull them, check dates on them, if both look good, they go back in.
Long life injectors! Always to be confirmed by diagnostics.

2009-2010 build vehicles should be around 120k & getting them replaced.
                  Prevention.

                    Hi ####,

I have a 06/2012 build so is it more likely that these are full DLC and is there any way of finding out without pulling the injectors? eg. toyota checking part numbers with the VIN.
And what is the expected life of the full DLC injectors.

                    Regards

                      It probably has.
You must pull them, which is not an issue, because you need to change the washers & check valve clearance every 120k.
It's hard to say, because they have not been around long enough to know.
                      Very long.

                        #### and all others

                        Great factual information.

Thanks for providing this update re Prado 150 injectors. Looks like 2013 150 is the way to go. Considering 2.8L 2015-2016.
After going to the Pajero dark side of motoring I'm now considering a Prado again.
Rang two local Adelaide service departments to get an up date re 150 injectors.
Thought some would be interested in hearing the responses.

Service department 1. All injector issues resolved with better filtration and more frequent fuel filter changes. Asked what micron rating of filter was and efficiency rating and was told no information available. Asked if injectors has been changed much over last ten years. No response. Clearly a fog off.

Service Department 2. Stated that self cleaning injectors (assume DLC) were used no date was available as to when specifications of injectors were changed. Asked about service life of 150 series injectors. No response provided. Asked if 120k was a reasonable lifespan. No response.

Asked about extra filter with at least a 3 micron 95% efficiency rating (Parker Racore's recommendation for CRD) and both were concerned this may impact on warranty.

Well I am also in the process of trying to find the Fuel flow rating for a Caterpillar filter system. As long as the filter it is providing enough flow for the fuel system there should be no issue with WTY.
D4D. How long will it last?

so where is the best place to get new injectors from for the 150 Prado?

Are the BDG Blueprinted ones good or is it better to pay the extra and get new Genuine Denso ones?

                            Cheers

If you want to buy them yourself, get a price off ####### from here on PP. I have not needed them but other posters have said he has a good price.

Check your area and then ask him, at least you have a comparison then.
