  • Time for some GOOD NEWS - longer life injectors - DLC DENSO

I'm still recommending checking injectors each service & replacing them @ 120,000k.
That is for pre DLC injectors.
You can see the damage on the command pistons, no microscope needed!
Those had within spec readings, but a bit rattly, heck I wonder why......
The injectors are moving damn quick, but it ain't happening smooth like that.

    Bodgy old nozzle needle

There's always new information, everyday. I wish I could share what I've learned, plug you in.
But unfortunately you only get snippets. I'm trying to help prevent engine seizures & cracked pistons.
Anyway, I can confirm DENSO Injectors built from at least sometime in 2010, that are in 2012-2013 ish onwards vehicles are DLC coated. Not only are they coated, it's in all the areas it's needed.
That includes the back of the solenoid valve.
    Compare

See the wear on the back of the solenoid valve? The coated ones are black. Smooth as silk.

Compare the pair. Non coated 100,000k, yuk!
    Coated 260,000k & nice!

How's this for a nice long life nozzle needle?

IMO this is what you want at 240-300k

So 120k for the old crap, or get them out ASAP.
I'm estimating 240k from DLC gear.
Some will last longer, some will have issues, fuel contamination.
But as a same same comaro, I'm saying I think you will see at least double Klm's from coated DENSO DLC.

Like always you have to be care full where you source your Injectors, some old stock & wrong part numbers are still around.

As usual there will be more updates as things change, they do change, always evolving.
I hope a lot of you are smiling, I am.

    Cheers,

    ####.

    Hey ####,

Fantastic information as always, and definitely good news!

    I was interested to read about how the DLC coating works, and found this nice wiki in case anyone else wants to know how DLC can give such incredible improvements in performance and cycle life;

Hey ####, thanks for the update good news indeed. Stupid question you may have already answered somewhere but is there any way of determining whether you have DLC injectors without pulling them out?

        Cheers ####,

Bloody good new for us with 2012 and up 1kd-ftv. Im glad to hear that my 3 hiluxs in my family will see more than 120k from injectors but after reading and reading I for one will be checking feedback and volumes every service.

Thanks again for all your time and info shared.

Any way to know if the Toyota boxed Denso are DLC? The end cap on the injectors were dark grey, not aluminium silver colour.

I'd be stoked to know my injectors are good for 200k+ km. I was planning to change them after 120 000km.

Hey Mark, good contribution as always.

Riv39, yes and no. It's not clear, there are a few things/Variables I won't go into much, it will get too confusing.
Yours will most likely be pre DLC. So you know what I think. Bye bye to yours, But the new ones I get you will be the goods!
There can be up to 3 years between the Injector manufacture date & vehicle manufacture date.
But I'm getting good at picking it, between diagnostics, markings, & solenoids & codes.

Dave, do keep checking them, because you can always be unlucky & get a bad one, or fuel issues.
Also remember you are very close to the change over dates on hiluxes, they are where I have often found the 3 year gap from vehicle build date to engine. If they are late 2012 I'm confident it's all good.

Razor, they are on my shelf waiting for you. They have the solenoid top marks which denotes "prevents wrong combustion".

Red Devil, you can only get the right ones, as long as you are buying from a local supplier. With grey import old stock, who knows what you might get. I dont know the whole number off hand but if you email me I will reply tomorrow.
                Prado #################### (no space).

                Gxld4d, maybe.
                were they 316's?
Do they have 2 dots on top of the solenoid?
What year did you buy them? Do you have a picture of the code in the side so I can check their date?
By the way, imo the old silver cap nuts were crap, the later dark grey ones much better quality.

                  Hi ####,

I just rang my local Toyota Dealer in Bne. The spare parts section said the OEM part number for the injectors in my June 2013 build Prado D4D is 23670-39365. I checked this number on Amayama but it doesn't tell me if they are DLC or not.

The spare parts guy told me this part number applied to vehicles dated 8/09 to 8/13. I assume this is build date and probably means all pre-facelift 150's.

Do you know if this part number means DLC injectors or not? Other sites suggest they are Euro 4 but don't say anything about DLC.

                  Thanks
                  Andrew

I use DENSO, but off my head 365's should be for all 150 Prado & DLC.

Ask Toyota production in Japan. Haha you can't, but I'm working on other ways, forever till there's no more 1kd's.
The information in the above posts is the best guide at this stage.
The more 2010-2011-2012 I replace, the more information will be available for all here.
2009&2010 should be getting replaced now. Then time goes by & we more forward & learn more.

The denco diesel website brings up 23670-30400 when you enter 23670-39365. A denco technical bloke reckons they are the same injector. I wonder if the 400 version is upgraded e.g. Extra dlc like the 316 seems to be for the original injector in the 120 series.

The Toyota parts bloke I spoke to reckons the 365 injector is also in the 2014 and 2015 1kds. Buggered if I know.

In Toyota numbers 316 is for 120's. 365 is or 150's.
Not sure how old their sticks are as trade buys DENSO. But 365 will be DLC, if you want to pay more.
                            30400 is not a number I use.

                            There's no DLC, (old) & there's DLC.
Just the parts pictured in the top of thread. Those are the moving parts that needed the coating.

A model or facelift or some thing maybe, but not DLC in 150's.
                              It all depends, varies......
Injectors definitely by 02/2010 production. Maybe a tad earlier I suspect.
But they are in later vehicles, sometimes 2011, more likely on 2012, pretty sure most 2013+.
So you could say by then they would all have them.

So if you have a 1/13 I think you are lucky, well clear.
