  • 3.0 d4d rough idle and knocking help please

Hi guys I'm currently away on holiday and the collie seems to be playing up a bit
When I driving around at slow speeds 20mph the engine seems quite knocky also once warm and the engine seems very rough at idle when driving and accelerating it still seems to pull very well
Any ideas on what I can check whilst away from home with no tools to hand
    It's a 2002 collie 3.0 d4d auto 184k miles

    Sounds like it needs Injectors.

Im doubting it being the injectors as the car has done over 1200 miles and not missed a beat 800 of those miles have been towing a 1500kg caravan
The engine is quiet when accelerating but when your just maintaining speed the engine is quite knocky. I did do a full sevice on the engine before we set off on our trip the oil I used was 5w30 semi synthetic im wondering if I should try 10w40 or 15w40 semi synthetic

        same issue here

        Guys

i am facing the same issue here on my 2001 prado 1KDftv engine.
rough idle and knocking at low revs
replaced the injectors 03 months back, the issue existed before the replacement and is continuing.

any help will be greatly appreciated

        cheers

Bought a 2009 Prado 120 in 2013, same problems especially the knocking on tick over. On the second service (120000km) I took to some ex toyota lads who had set up on their own, I was handed pre service a bottle of diesel cleaner and told to throw the lot in to the tank bout 60lts at the time and drive hard for about 30km out of town turn around and back home and not to worry about smoke and bring it in for service next morning,
did as was instructed, no obvious smoke, big expensive (Kimberley) service completed next day, On a whim I decided to continue with the diesel additive, lo and behold the problems faded away, how long it took i'm not sure but not very long quite a subtle process. I use Flash lube common rail diesel conditioner, by the liter cos its cheaper that way.
while pulling a 2.2ton caravan on tarmac was able to wind the window down and just hear the wind lovely quiet engine tick over fine. Give it a try I have for the last three years, little extra cost but well worth it.

            Ideas:

            Compression test.
            Replace Scv.
            Check fuel.
