  • Selling 150 buying 200

So I'm thinking of upgrading my Prado with a new Landcruiser Gxl. Best price I have at the moment is 86k drive away for the base car. I'll ad accessories after to avoid paying too much tax. I think it's a good price. Anybody bought one lately?

I'm about to sell my 10/2014 Prado Gxl auto diesel with colour code bullbar, X-ray 90w hid spotlights, ICOM uhf, cargo barrier and rubber floor and cargo mats with 34k on the clock. It's in excellent condition. I'm not sure what it's worth, I had a look on car sales and cars seem to be priced around 56k. Any ideas on what I should be able to sell it for?

    Unhelpful answer: $86k
Helpful answer, try $60k-$65k maybe. Someone might pay that I'm sure...

Low mileage, kitted out, $60k probably isn't unreasonable. You have to aim high.

You have a good vehicle, likely upgraded pistons & injectors.
That was in the 2014-2015 models, good package with an egr flow reduction plate.

The new vehicles are moving forward with technology & euro emissions, as long as your selling your 200 just as fast you likely won't have to deal with too many dpf & egr issues.

I'm ready to buy a 200 also, but hearing of the dpf & injector issues & knowing about the egr, I think holding off is the go. I'd get a new one every 2-3 years to economically avoid technology - emissions issues.

I think you can buy one cheaper at the right place & time.

Put the Prado in up high$$$$$ & drop the price a grand a week till the phone rings & you will know what it's worth.

The only issue I have is the 200gxl doesn't have a few items my Prado does. like trip computer, rear parking sensors and steering wheel controls. I can get the Vx for 97 but it's a bit of a stretch.

Sorry to butt into your thread, but, looks like I will have to buy a 200 series to tow the new van when it turns up. Not being a diesel expert, can someone please give me a quick rundown on the euro emission problems with the new diesels, what I need to look out for, and anything else that may impact on keeping the vehicle for a long time.

I was looking at a model around the 2014 vintage. I have noticed that GXL models do not have everything I have in my GXL Prado.

For a 2014 GXL, nooooooooo way! I'd pay that for a 2014 VX. Not a GXL. Try mid $50k's, but be prepared to negotiate down to the low 50's. They hold their value well, but not that well.

And we all know that the amount of kit on a car has no effect on it's sale price. Any accessory you add won't improve it's value - you could have it covered in barwork from the front to the back at a cost to you of ~$5k. A $50,000 vehicle isn't automatically worth $55,000 because of that. Sorry, just how it works.

                    Regards,

If I may be so bold, I'd aim for the aforementioned $56k and stick to your guns. If someone want's that particular car badly enough, they'll pay market prices. I'll be in the market for a facelift pre-2.8L VX early/mid next year, if the right one came up for the right price, I'd even travel interstate to pick the damn thing up. So, with that logic, you should be able to get reasonable value for the car. If you don't need it gone ASAP, you'll hopefully be able to sell it for a great price.

Regarding the 200 series, I've also been looking at one for me. However, I've been checking out the used Sahara's from around 2009ish. If you don't -want- a new car, may I suggest getting a slightly older vehicle? Whilst the addition of things like bull bars etc doesn't increase the market value of a car, it does make it more desirable. It doesn't translate into an increase in asking price, but it does mean you're more likely to sell it (because someone like me would be more inclined to buy it!).

                        Cheers,

I think I've made my mind up to buy a new VX 200 series. But only if I get good coin for my Gxl.

Plus I want to get in before the price rise...

Hmm. Have you spoken to a dealership re: trade-in? Usually you won't get close to the market value for a private sale, but you might be able to sell it and swing it with a young/keen/inexperienced salesperson who's keen to give you a 200?

                            Cheers,
