It has been a while and I have had some interesting things go on.

Decals: I replaced the withering 'D4D Turbo' decals. Using info I got from here on PP, I was able to remove the old decals (albeit a few hours).

Tyres: I got new tyres fitted: Dunlop Grantrek AT3's. I am happy at this stage as they are 70/30 mix and we haven't really done much off-road stuff yet. But planning on getting into it. So far so good.

LED Spotlights: I got the 9" LED Spotlights fitted. I had to make some custom plates to sit flush on the bullbar as the mounting point for the lights is recessed, and the brackets for the LED's was bigger than the recessed area.
I used 3mm plate, primer and black matte paint to finish them off. End result I was very happy with. I had been worried about them fouling the front camera and cruise control radar, but to my surprise, they do not effect them at all. Obviously I don't have the same amount of angle vision on the camera, but I can still see forward which is nice.

    The interesting things:

When I purchased the car, there was a long list of items that required attention and was agreed upon for the purchase to go ahead.
It has taken close to 6 months to get it all done, but it is all done now and thankfully don't have to go back to the dealer anymore.

    The list:

    Alternator replaced
    Driver's Seat Heater switch replaced
    Centre Cool Box Lid replaced
Rear volume controls replaced (missing the knobs)
    Sound System Amplifier replaced
    Front Speakers replaced
    Aircon vent knobs fitted (missing)
Outer door belt molds replaced (x4)

    All was replaced under warranty.

Door Handle: Replaced the drivers side outer rear door handle. (it broke clean off)

I've been waiting to see how it goes off-road to see if I need a lift, it looks light it needs a lift at the front. The springs have sagged i'm sure, with a bullbar currently, hoping to get a winch and aux batteries in the future.
I have been reading intently about Kakadu suspension options and it appears the Dobinsons MRR are the choice.

    I'll update with photos soon.

Currently, PP has proven to be very valuable and I am sure will continue to be. Thanks to all who contribute!

    Thanks.

Looking good. I was looking at the tjm bars recently, I like that they are winch bars with the cover plate fitted rather then having winch or non winch bars.
I saw you had replaced the decals, I just did mine last weeks as well!

      Cheers,

      Mark

        Hey guys,

It's been a while since posting so a few updates:

I've added a bunch of things in the time since getting our Kakadu: (updated in first post)

        Fitted Full Length Flat Rack
        Fitted 2.5m x 3m Awning
Fitted 42" 'Godfather' LED Light Bar (front and rear (switched of course)
        Fitted TJM Snorkel

A few things have happened since as well....

Wife backed into a tree in town and the end result was a broken spoiler and shattered rear screen. (forgot to take pictures )
Brand new screen went in the next day and a 4 week wait for a new rear spoiler out of Japan! Only just got it fitted yesterday.

I've just ordered a 2" Lift Kit - Bilstein Front and Rear Struts and Dobinsons Front Coils. I am going to trick the rear bags for now and order Airbag Man 2" Lift Bags in a few months when cash flow has recovered.

Literally just ordered 5 x 275 65 R18 BFG K02's to be fitted after lift is done.

And to top it all off, her 200,000km service is due within 3 months.

        Happy early birthday present Kakadu!

Who'd you order your suspension off mate? If it's not Zordo you might want to double check they are giving you the right shocks and struts- I had mine stuffed up by a well known company who had advertised it as the "go to" package for a prado. If they've given you part numbers make sure that the back shocks aren't B713's.

Rest of the stuff looks really good, I put a kings lightbar (not quite the same on you got, mine looks a little different) on the front of my rig a few days ago and am blown away by how much light I'm getting from it- Am planning on putting one of the baby ones on the back that comes on when you put the car into reverse. Love the build mate, keep it up.

I ordered them from 4WD World. Do you know the exact part numbers that you ended up with that are correct?

            what I ordered:

            2 x Bilstein B6 Off-Road Front Shocks - F4-BE5-A712-M2
            2 x Bilstein B6 Off-Road Rear Shocks - 24-238830
            2 x Dobinsons Front Coils - C59-726

You've got the same front struts as me- basically they'll do, Zordo uses ones from the Hilux which perform better. Actually can't find that coil number in Dobinsons catalogue, but I think it's actually the same one I've got (I assume you asked for one suitable for use with a bullbar/ winch etc?). Do you have the part numbers for the rear coils? The should be either: C59-325 (for use with light loads 60-100kg, C59-327 (loads from 100-300) or C59-329(300kg constant). Those shocks are okay as well- As long it's not the 713's haha, I got caught with that one. I'll post a pic so you can see the difference between a set of incorrectly fitted shocks and the right ones.

So are you happy with how the front behaves? How do I know if they are or are not 713’s? The part number certainly doesn’t say 713?????

Ive got a Kakadu so no Rear coils. Yes, stated I have a bar and future batts and winch. I’ll be getting new AirBag Man bags for the rear in near future. Hopefully fitting this weekend!
Thanks for the pics, my heights are slightly different from stock as it’s a Kakadu.

Yeah, the front is great mate. Whitey has posted extensively on the handling characteristics of the Prado (which are topics well worth reading) and the back is basically the most important thing to get right on the car. Your part numbers are fine for the shocks- The 713 shocks end in the numbers 713 instead of the 830 that you've got.

                    Few!

I’m wondering about the height setting on the fronts. There are 3 settings you can set the spring seat on. Which one
                    Is yours set on?

I haven't messed with the height adjustment on my struts- they're on the middle one at the moment. I'm considering changing that when they go in for their 5K service (which should be happening shortly). I'm looking at coming down to Brisbane shortly and am considering dropping into Johns to get him to do the service. I can't speak for what your airbags will be like (as I have a GXL) but I found that the upgraded suspension does make the car less boaty on the road- which is both good and bad, good in that it handles a lot better and doesn't wallow so much, bad in that you feel the little inperfections in the road that you didn't before. Offroad they're worlds apart, you'll notice much less "rocking" when you hit holes, and they won't bottom out like the stock ones do. I've had a few big hits in mine so far and haven't hit the bumpstops yet.

And I booked the Kakadu in to get the lift done, and fit the new rubber and this is the end result:

Needless to say I am pretty stoked! I haven't really tested the whole setup out yet but just the initial driving around town etc it is a changed animal!

Hi Steve, just wondering who you used to do the lift on the Kakadu? I am looking at getting one done soon on mine, but I would like to use someone who has lifted Kakadu's in the past. Cheers.
Car looks great by the way!!
