    Digging up and old thread here, because my cruise control has just started playing up and I suspect I'm about to go through the same process.

    Gordon, if you had not forgotten to plug in the SAS connector in the first place would it have all been fine without the need to intervene with techstream? I don't have techstream or the OBD2 dongle so am wondering if I'm better off buying a clockspring with SAS and paying the $500 and avoiding the hassle, or buying one without the SAS?

      Hi, I would still have needed to reset the SAS with Techstream. Forgetting to plug it back in just meant I couldn't do it at all. The manual process might work *but I don't think it really applies to our cars and it feels fairly brutal stuffing paper clips into OBD connectors.
      Buying the preassembled clock spring with SAS doesn't save you from resetting the SAS. There is some possibility of damaging the SAS when removing and reassembling to the clock spring so if you buy the non SAS part please be gentle! Where are you I'm happy to help if you're near Footscray.

        Thanks mate. Nowhere near you unfortunately. I think I'll buy one with the SAS to minimise risk. So I will still need to obtain techstream and the obd11 dongle then?

          I believe so yes. But you can try without first. Only downside will be that you will not have stability control if it flips out. If you can envisage living without ESC then don't buy the techstream gear unless/until you need it, or take your car to a dealer or tyre shop to reset the SAS if necessary. (Ask them first it will be obvious if they know what to do).

          NB I doubt that buying the assembly with SAS included will save you from resetting the SAS. It will be a slightly easier job but much more expensive.

            Thanks Gordon. I know nothing about OBD2 and techstream, but it appears I can buy a dongle pretty cheap ~$20-30 and download software onto my phone. Is this what most people do? Any recommendations for which dongle and software?

              Unless you're fairly computer savvy don't waste your money on the dongle.. just pay somebody to reset it for you.
              Techstream runs natively on Windows XP and with a workaround on later versions. I'm unaware of it running on any phones.

                    Yes I did. Bought a genuine clock spring off Amayama, took about 20 mins to fit and has worked perfectly since.
